Numerous things can potentially 'stunt your growth' (stop your body from developing to it's potential)
Say your dad is 6'2 and your mom is 5'8, chances are you're going to be tall. But when you were growing up, your parents didn't have enough money to eat well, so you lived off bread and water, because of the lack of nutrients, your body didn't fully develop and you end up being 5'2...get it?
But working out WILL NOT stunt your growth. Being active is very important from when you're a kid, to when you're an old fart. Your body needs excercise and movement. Weight training is another way of working out. So if you like lifting weights more than kicking a soccer a ball, that's fine! Just don't forget to do some sort of running because running increases your cardiovascular endurance which is very important for your heart.
And eating lots of protein is essential for gaining muscle. You need to eat a pound of muscle per every pound of lean muscle mass. So say you weigh 150 lbs, you want to eat roughly 130lbs of protein a day. But talk to a nutritionist, because balanced meals are important.
