What's the best way to use differin for maximum results?

I want my skin to clear up fast, but permanently. What is the best way to use it?

My doctor said to put it on for 4-5 hours the first week or so then wash it off before bed. I have it on now. Should I wash it off and not put it back on or should I? I don't think wearing it twice in one day is a good idea...

I have dealt with acne for many years...and I have used Differin for a long time. I was told to use the gel before bed and leave it on through the night...then to also apply a thin layer before I put my makeup on in the morning...if you're skin gets irritated, just use it at night.
As with most acne treatments, it takes 4-6 weeks to REALLY see results and it will probably get worse before it gets better.
IF your skin gets very irritated and dry and doesn't improve with time... try switching from Differin GEL to Differin Cream. They are the same product, but the cream is gentler on your skin... and I eventually had to switch over because the gel was too harsh and I couldn't keep my skin moisturized....and then it becomes a viscious cycle. If your skin is excessively dry, it will make more oil to moisturize itself... so you have to find a balance and use an oil free moisturizer as well.
After trying MANY of the products out there...I've found that Neutragena Fresh Foaming Facial Cleanser (blue bottle w/ white pump) is the most effective and gentle on my face. I also use the Neutragena Oil-Free moisturizer and have NEVER had a problem...even after 6 years of bad cystic acne....it has now almost entirely cleared with this regimen.
Good luck! And make sure you have a dermatologist that you really love...it makes all the difference.

thx
I just wanted to add some useful information here...Only use retinoid creams, like Differin, at night time when you are going to bed and you're in darkness. Light destroys vitamin A, which is what is at the base of these products. Also, a thin layer works best, about the size of a pea for your face.

I have terrible acne and the differin gel is working really good for me. But I must warn you that it could take 4 weeks before you start to see any improvment. Actually, things usually get worse before they get better so hang in there. I was told to wash my face before bedtime and apply once then and then repeat the next night, etc. (Also applying a thick layer will not help and it will probably only make things worse)
