Generic name: Cyprohepatadine. Brand name: Periactin. "Periactin is an antihistamine given to help relieve cold- and allergy-related symptoms such as hayfever, nasal inflammation, stuffy nose, red and inflammed eyes, hives, and swelling. Periactin may also be given after epinephrine to help treat anaphylexis, a life-treatening allergic reaction.
Some doctors prescribe periactin to treat cluster headache and to stimulate appetite in underweight people."

Cyproheptadine, an antihistamine, relieves red, irritated, itchy, watery eyes; sneezing; and runny nose caused by allergies, hay fever, and the common cold. It may also relieve the itching of insect bites, bee stings, poison ivy, and poison oak.

This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
