Cooked rice with beef or chicken is good for the dog's upset stomache & you can also give her Pepto-Bismol. The correct dosage is on this site http://animalsunlimited.net/meds.htm

Yep - the rice and boiled beef work well, but one thing that is easier for you and tastier for her is rice and beef baby food in the jar. For the first 8 hours, just give her lots of water to avoid dehydration and let her stomach settle a little. Then give her about 1/2C rice with about 1 Tablespoon of beef babyfood mixed in. Continue with water and see how she tolerates it. If she does well, you can continue with the rice and bbf for the next 12 hours increasing the amount of bbf a little. If things are going well, incorporate her normal food into the rice mixture gradually increasing the dog food until the rice has been phased out. The best thing to do once you see her initially responding is to feed her small amounts often instead of a few big meals. If she won't take a good bit of water, if she won't eat the rice mixture after a few tries, if things don't start firming up by day 2, if she is in obvious pain, if she starts vomiting and if the the stools are black or you see blood - your need to get her to the vet.

I would have the vet check her out first. Could be something that is causing this!

Hi, you need to bring your dog to the vet. How many times has she pooped and what is the consistency? She might have Giardia. Ask our vet about probiotic-it's good for the stomach.

White rice not brown, remember. You can also try green vegies.

How long has this been going on? You may need to call the vet. Sometimes it's better to let it get out of the dogs system naturally. Is she drinking and eating ok? If you must intervene rice is good but I was told by my vet not to mix with can food, just boiled chicken (plain) as canned food in itself could be causing the diarrhea in the first place. Also you don't say what kind of dog it is, some breeds are more sensitive to certain ingredients in food than others. For instance, I have a lab and was told she shouldn't have dog food with corn or wheat in the ingredients.

If the diarrhea doesn't go away your dog may have worms. Take a stool sample to the vet. You can also try boiled chicken, a scrambled egg (don't add anything else), cottage cheese.
But its also important not to feed her so much. My vet starts with 24 hours fast and then adds just a little very bland food at regular intervals a couple times a day until the diarrhea stops.
Also there may be an ingredient she is allergic to in her dog food. Corn is a common dog food allergy. Try changing brands and check the ingredients.

A great way to sooth a dogs upset stomach is with Pumpkin (out of a can) feed this to her and it should make her diarrhea disappear. If this is a reoccurring issue though you should look into changing her dog for or visiting a local vet.

For home remedy you need to rehydrate your dog. Everyone thinks that diarrhea is a sign of too much liquid but it is just the opposite. A good way to get liquid into their stomach is warm up (no hot) some sodium free chicken broth. Alternate between that and water.

If you take the dog to the vet, they can inject fluids into the scruff area that will slowly release into the dogs system.

    Good luck

Check her stools for worms as a safeguard, or treat her for worms to make sure she doesn't have any. If she has it each morning, I'd treat her for worms as a safeguard for sure.

Rice is what I use... just as you were told...
Sometimes if they get too much fat in their diet this diarrhea will come and the dog won't be sick... just responding to too much fat.
