How safe are newborn kittens inside my couch? should i be worried about my dogs getting them? can i move them?

i dont know if there's anything i need to do for the kittens yet. I wanna know if maybe i should try to move them to a room I already prepared for my cat to have her kittens in. how long before kittens start litter box training, and eat solid foods?

You shouldn't move your cat unless you plan on giving her a whole room. More than likely, your cat isn't going to think your choice in spot is safe enough and end up moving them again. Try giving her a room to herself (safe from dog) and giving her lots of places that are comfortable. She will pick the safest and most comfortable spot on her own. As for when they start potty training and eating: Kittens need milk and stimulus to go potty before 3 or 4 weeks. After that the mother usually cleans up the bowel movements until about 4 to 6 weeks. At 5 or 6 weeks you should start feeding them wet food and since the kittens will be running around, they will get the idea of using the cat box from mom. If not, simply set the kitten in it 2 or 3 times to get the idea.

I think you should move them, it would be safer for them and safer for the mom. Move them to a shallow box in a different room and block it off from the dogs. Mom should be able to move in and out.

Don't move them. The mother cat will do this when the time is right. The kittens are where they are because of a safety issue where "mom" is concerned. If you move them, she may kill the kittens. I have seen this happen before. Leave the litter training up to the "mom" as she knows best & will take care of her babies, so please don't move them. AS for when the kittens can eat solid food, I wouldn't worry about it until they are weaned, at about six or seven weeks of age. ^-^

    1. Depending on what part of the couch, how the mom got in the couch, and how durable the couch is, but they should be decently safe.

    2. Probably, keep the dogs away from the couch as much as possible, especially if they're big dogs who aren't cat friendly. The mother cat might fight the dogs to protect her kittens, so put the dogs outside (if you can) or keep them out of that room.

    3. I wouldn't until they're older. They're mother may move them herself, but she also might not. Planning on moving them (once they're older) is an option, I'd wait until they're starting to come out of the couch, this will vary in time.

    4. My cat's kittens ate solid food at 4-5 weeks, litter box training could begin around this time.
