Do your teeth feel like they are loose after having a scaling and root planning done?

I just my teeth scaled and now that the numbness has worn off my top teeth feel loose like they want to fall out. Is this normal? What kinds of food should I eat after the procedure?

I believe what you are experiencing is normal. They feel loose because the hygienist had to go deep under your gums to remove all the built up calculus and tartar that has built for over a long period of time.

As far as food is concerned, try not to eat anything that is spicy or acidic. You and your gums are still sore and open-to an extent- and I would think that would aggravate the situation. Though, from now on I would advise that you keep your dental cleaning appointments and brush and floss everyday so you do not have to do this again. Perio disease is silent and nothing hurts. But, you lose bone around your teeth, they become mobile and then you get dentures. Not good!

Keep on top of oral health, it is the base for overall health.

Soft foods that don't have to be chewed much , and yes, it is very normal to feel like your teeth are loose. It will go away after 4 or 5 days. Thy things like apple sauce , soups and soft cooked vegetables.

The doc should have told you to apply an ice pack on the cheek to reduce swelling.

If you don't feel like eating drink Nutriment (vanilla, strawbery, (Don't use chocolate), and banana. It's kinda hard to find sometimes in the supermarket.

They will probably feel loose and HURT.

Tylenol or the Rx Tylenol w/codene should be effective. Aspirin should be avoided.

They say that root canals are one of the most nasty dental procedures. A close second is crown lengthening surgery which is really jaw bone lowering surgery,
