the first line of drug for strep infection is Penicillin V K taken orally for 7-10 days. You may take also amoxicillin orally because these Strep are gram positive organisms or there cell wall stained with special dye. The drug attacks the cell wall for it to be effective.
Bactrim on the other hand may also be use if you are allergic to Pen/ Amox however it attacks the other part of the germ/ cell not the cell wall.
I would suggest you to talk to your physician regarding this. Have a good oral hygiene, plenty of fluids and gargle with water with salt. You need also to have bed rest

The antibiotic you are taking is the cure for strep throat. You need to drink plenty of fluids and get extra rest. The most important thing is to take all of your BACTRIM. If you don't you can wind up being much more sick a month from now, with a super infection, and you may also get heart valve damage. So make sure you take all the prescription.

I know Bactrim is used for ear infections. Why are you taking Bactrim?
