Sex drive decreased from taking celexa?
I have been on this medication for about 4 months now. I used to have a really strong sex drive and it just doesn't seem to be there as much anymore. When a situation arises, I have no issues with performing, but it's not as good as it used to be. Is there a medication out there that can counter-act this? I don't need anything like viagra, I have no problems with impotence. Just want my drive back, I'm 25 and need it!
Additional Details
Celexa is an antidepresant/anxiety medication.

Celexa is one of a broad family of anti depressents called SSRI's (Selective Seratonin Re-uptake inhibitors)
Many men experience either loss of libido (sex drive) or delayed ejaculation. Do not stop it on your own, but see your DR. and ask about certain meds that will treat depression that are not SSRI's. Sometimes a person has better luck with another SSRI, but in my experience if one causes libido, the others do too.
Wellbutrin can work well for many with much less of this effect. Trazodone is an older generation anti depressent, that seems to not cause this in most and it is generic, so it is cheap. Your Dr. should be able to advise you better, but let him/her know that you want to try something that effects your libido less.

unfortunately that is one of the most common side effects of antidepressants. talk to your doctor and see if he'd be willing to try another one that mght not have as severe effects. there are lots of options out there for treating depression. wellbutrin is known for depression and not limiting the sex drive. regular exercise has been known to help. one of the things that goes hand in hand with depression is an overactive libido. if you can remeber back to all the questions your doctor asked before prescribing it, you might remember him asking how often you have sex or if there's been an increase in sexual activity above what you normally have weekly.

First, I'd like to say I'm sorry that you suffer from depression...I know how horrible it can be. Unfortunately, there is no medication that is going to 'counter-act" your problem. The only thing that will solve your problem is to stop taking the celexa. All anti-depressant medications are toxic poison. You're just being a Guinea pig for the pharmaceutical industry and making them rich in the process. I wonder if your doctor prescribed exercise, a whole food diet, relaxation and breathing exercises, light therapy, massage, or perhaps journal writing before he/she was so quick to hand out the prescription for celexa. I took an anti-depressant for over a year...they say they're not addictive or habit forming...THEY LIE! When I came off of them, I had SEVERE physical and mental withdrawal symptoms. I was in more pain physically and mentally than I had ever been...even suicidal. Throwing up, migraines, insomnia, "zaps", hallucinating, feeling like I was going CRAZY! I should just stop here...good luck to you...just remember that you CAN survive and be happy again...WITHOUT medication...I did!

Lots of antidepressants diminish libido. It's a common side effect. Ask your doctor about switching your medication. Wellbutrin has worked well for me (not the generic) and hasn't killed my drive. No worries! You're normal. Whatever you do, don't stop taking the Celexa until you talk to your doctor and switch. It could be a difficult switch and it needs to be done under a doctor's supervision. Good Luck!
