Lortab 7.5/500?

Ok this is what my doctor perscribed me for the pain my ovarian cyst is causing me... I have a huge issue with taking medications I have never taken before as I have a fear of sideaffects/allergic reactions... When I had gone to the ER they gave me Morphine, that had bad effects on me that didnt wear off for 2 days (headache and nausea) not to mention it didnt help with the pain at all... So what I am asking is this,

1. Should I even bother taking the lortab?
2. What does it make you feel like?

This is a list of painkillers that have no effect on me

Morphine
Advil
Tylenol
Percocet
Ultracet
Aspirin
Aleve
Ibuprofen

These are my allergies

Penicillin
Codeine

I have told my doctor all of this and he still perscribed me it.

The Lortab will work for you. I am also allergic to Morphine and codeine and I took Lortab for my ovarian cyst. The pain was from the cyst twisting on its stalk. (OUCH) That was terrible pain! I had to have it removed with abdominal surgery. Demerol or Dilaudid are what the hospital should give you if Morphine doesn't work for your pain.

The Lortab may make you drowsy but if taken for real pain it won't make you feel "high." Lortab contains hydrocodone....not codeine. Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic opoid.

I see you are allergic to codeine and there is codeine in lortab but my mother is severely allergic to codeine and when she got plursey the Doctor gave her lortab he said she should take it and he new she was allergic he said it wouldn't cause a reaction because there wasn't a large enougth amount to cause the reaction im not sure if hes right or not but she took it and it helped her alot.and ur Doctor knows what ur allergic too so he wouldn't give it to you if it wasn't safe for you.You could at lest try and take it 1 time and see if it helps if the pain is bad enougth you deserve to get some relief and there are quit a few ppl i know who say lortab works best for them outta any pain med!!!

Hope you get some pain relief

It drives me nuts when people answer questions about medications and they don't know what they are talking about.
To be safe you should always ask you pharmacist, they are usually eager to help. Anyway, there is not Codeine in Lortab, it is hydrocodone which is an opiate, and I believe that it just may work for you. The only thing that I worry about in your case is that it does use Acetaminophen which is in Tylenol which you said doesn't help your pain. So if the Lortab still doesn't help your pain, you may mention something called Norco to your doctor, it has much less acetaminophen in it for those who are immuned to it.

Again, there isn't codiene as an active ingredient in Lortab, I don't know where people get these things, its dangerous.

Lortab is hydrocodone, so if you are allergic to codeine, I'm surprised the doctor prescribed it for you.

    What about Hydrocodone?

That's the only thing that helps me in the slightest.

It doesn't make me feel funky or sick at all. It actually relaxes me and helps me sleep.

Morphine doesn't work on me either. I was given some during childbirth. Didn't help a bit!

Try a Lortab. It just might help.

you should be OK. Just the tylenol is bad. Ask for Norco next time if this works. It is 10/325 while you have 7.5/500. I am allergic to or cannot take Morphine for same reasons. I take Opana ER which is morphine based oxycodone and as a chronic pain sufferer this is an amazing new on market med. little side effects, pain relief but you will need insurance. I take 80mg's aday(2-40's) and was on 300 Mcg;s Duragesic! Medications are very DANGEROUS. I learned when taking a non-controlled script and got sick and had withdrawals. Be careful and inquire. Your DR. works for you.

Hmmmm, well if you have allergies to codeine, that would explain why the morphine had such a bad reaction for you. Lortab is hydrocodone, which is a semi-synthetic opiate, so, while you are allergic to codeine, it is possible that you may not be allergic to hydrocodone. You can try taking the lortab, but in all honesty, if percocet didn't do anything, lortab wouldnt, as oxycodone is a semi-synthetic like hydrocodone, just a little stronger.

Maybe try asking for Opana or Opana ER, both are oxymorphone, which is about 10 times stronger than morphine (the ER being extended release) and might help. Duragesic, the 3 day transdermal fentanyl patch is a step up from oxymorphone, and would probably work as well, but you would have to ask your doctor about them.

    Edit:...

Also... to the people who said there is codeine in lortab, you are incorrect. Codeine, morphine, and thebaine, are pure opiates, so if you're allergic to one, you probably would be allergic to the others. Hydrocodone (lortab, vicodin), oxycodone (percocet), hydromorphone (dilaudid), oxymorphone (opana) and diamorphine (heroin) are semi-synthetics, and don't necessarily mean you would be allergic to them. Then finally you have fully synthetics, in which you wouldn't be allergic to either, and those include fentanyl (duragesic patch) pethadine (demerol), and methadone.
