Vicodin side effects? should i go to the ER?

I'm concerned.
I took my prescribed vicodin (1000 mg) about an hour ago and about 10 minutes ago i suddenly felt nauseous, like i was going to puke, and was insanely shaky, and i checked my pulse and it was 54 bpm(my normal resting heartrate is around 90 usually because i get nervous)

i'm extremely nervous when it comes to drugs.
but should i be concerned?
background info:
i'm 18, f.

the Dr. at the hospital gave me an antibiotic and vicodin for strep throat. vicodin for the aches and pains and hard to sleep.

Additional Details

edit: i forgot to mention i took the same amount last night and i felt absolutely fine.
i didn't even get tired.

right now, i think i;ll just do my best to fall asleep because i can barely lift my head i'm so weak.

i'll probably feel better in the morning...i hope?

spree- sorry about your breasts. he's actually not my doctor that gave it to me. i went to the ER to get my throat checked out because there was definitely something wrong and the nurse at the infirmary (college) didn't see anything. so i was like 'alright send me to the er then' and he told me it was obvious i was in pain and i could barely swallow without crying [this coming from the girl who cried for 5 minutes after breaking her arm]
anyways, i got off track, 7 doses is not going to get me addicted, trust me. i don't like this stuff but i needed it

mckville- i can't eat until the vicodin kicks in because my throat hurts so bad. its a vicious cycle.
i haven't really eaten all week. i rarely do when i get sick.

Vicodin is a strong pain med. One thing to ask your self is have you eaten today. If the answer is not much that is why you feel so sick. One of the common side effects is nausea. Try eating maybe some dry toast or crackers and drink lots of fluids. I agree with one of the other answers 1000 mg is a big dose. One other thing you may want to reserach the antibiotic because it may not mix with the vicodin. Every person is diffirent but what you are discribing is common if you are not use to taking Vicodin . If you get worried you can always call the emergent care at your local hospital and they should be able to tell you of drug reactions. Take care.

I am assuming you took 2 vicodin as it does not come in 1000mg strength. You may be sensitive to vicodin or you may be having a low blood sugar spell. Consider trying to eat something high in sugar right now followed immediately by something high in protein like peanut butter and crackers or cheese and crackers or yogurt to see if that help. If you don't feel better in an hour then it may be the antibiotics or the vicodin and just stay with the antibiotics and use 400-600mg of ibuprofen for the pain instead of the Vicodin or take just one vicodin instead of 2.

Call the pharmacist where you filled the prescription. They are very knowledgeable about these things. He can advise you whether you should go to the ER or not. FYI, I know a lot of people (myself included) who get very sick on Vicodin.

Vicodin for strep throat? Sheesh....I was prescribed Vicodin after my breasts were cut from my body (breast reduction) and I didnt even need it and your doctor is giving it to you for a sore throat? Vicodin as well as other narcotics can be very addictive and lives are ruined by these pain killers. You should be nervous. Try to deal with the pain for a few days...Its better than being an addict for life.

Call the doctor or go to the hospital. You might be having an allergic reaction. A lot of people are allergic to Vicodin or can't tolerate it, I should say. Ask for a different pain medication. I get sick off vicodin too and it doesn't even work for pain on me. I have to take percocet instead if I'm ever prescribed pain meds.
