How many wet diapers does your 20 month old have on average?

My son is about 20 months and he has only had 2 wet diapers today. One was in the morning, it was full and the urine was light. The second was in the evening and it the urine was also light and neither smelled strong.
He gets a lot to drink, but yesterday he had only a few wets so I really am trying to pay attention. He isn't acting any different and his appetite is normal as is his liquid intake.

I have three children, two in diapers so I don't really count his wets, but two is not normal, I believe it's normally 4 or 5 for him...
Thanks

Additional Details

I get the holding it in thing, but it's the fact that the diapers are not very wet that concerns me.
Today's diaper was a bit smelly and darker then normal.

It sounds like he's doing a lot of "holding it in". It's a readiness signal for potty training. If he likes to practice exercising those urinary sphincter muscles then I would encourage him to sit on the potty chair to pee. He's sounds fine to me.

ETA: Does your local hospital have a 24 hour hotline where you can ask health questions? Most larger hospitals have this service and their advice is free. I would advise you to pick up the "Yellow Pages" and look for it under "hospitals". They'll let you know how you can take of the problem at home or if it's better for you visit a doctor.
Dark yellow urine is more concentrated. Makes me wonder if he's a little dehydrated but then you also said he's getting enough liquids. I'm not in the medical field and my own kids never had this problem. Call your local hospital health hotline. It may be called Ask-A-Nurse or Healthformation or something similar to that.

One of my kids started to "hold it in" a lot ( longer stretches of time without a wet diaper) and potty training worked out pretty well.

We've been keeping track and I'm going to call the doctor in the morning. I was in there today and absolutely forgot to ask...I need more sleep=)

as long as he is drinking lots of water daily, don't worry. this is generally a sign that he's ready to start potty training. encourage this by leaving the diaper off him when you are home and putting him on the toilet. get a step stool so that he can reach it on his own.

My 20 month old (21 months on Jan 7th) averages about 6 or 7 diapers per day, usually I would say 5 or 6 are wet. she will NOT poop in a wet diaper........(don't ask me why not) so as soon as I change her, she poops and I have to change her agian. But that seems to be the usual average for her.

2 hours after she gets up
    late morning
    after lunch
    after her nap
    after dinner

Also she is peeing on the potty every night before she gets in her bath. Not that this means anything for potty training. I just put her bare butt on there while I run the bath. I think it is the water that makes her pee. so that means about 6 pees per day.
    hope this helps.
