What's the average enlisted pay with dependants in the USAF?

I'm in the USAF delayed entry program, i leave in March. I'm getting married before I leave, and I plan on sending money home to my spouse so she can take care of herself until I finished basic and tech school and come get her. I found out I'll receive my base pay, and extra pay for being married, because she's not in the military shes considered a dependant. I was just wondering how much that would be.

What is your starting rank and what city does your spouse live in? BAH rates vary by city. You will not receive BAS. that is food money for you and since you will be fed by the AF in basic, you won't get that. You first pay check will be small. they advance you $250 for supplies and they take it out of your first check. it takes anywhere from 4-8 weeks to get your first check. You can look up the base pay scales online and BAH rates.

FOR BAH (just enter your zip code)

You'll get your base pay, BAH and BAS. Those also depend on where you live. BAH is your housing allowance. It depends solely on where you live and how much housing is in that state. BAS is like a food allowance. It will probably be roughly $200. Don't quote me on that though.

We had a child when he joined, and his paycheck was approximately $2500 a month. If your wife lives on base, then her rent will be whatever amount your BAH is. I would suggest she stay with parents or get a small apartment off base to save money. All your pay MUST be deposited into a checking account. Be sure that you have a joint account (if that's what you want) so that she can pay the bills and buy necessities while your gone. I just always sent my husband checks for whatever money he needed and used the rest accordingly.

While you are in Basic Training you will be getting paid E-1 with Less Than 4 months of Service. BAS is 280 dollars approximately but you won't get that because since it's only to pay for YOUR meals it will be taken away because while on training status you will be provided meals by the government. Your BAH depends on what major city you live nearest. Also you WILL recieve a Family Seperation Allowance for unvoluntarily being seperated from your wife. You will need to set up a bank account and and get a printout from them of DIRECT DEPOSIT forms. I suggest either USAA or Air Force Federal Credit Union. I use the latter and have been able to get some decent loans with little/no credit history. as long as your wife has access to this account you won't have to worry about "sending" her money.. All your paycheck will go straight into it. When you are first enter Basic they will give you a prepaid card that comes from your check (it WAS 300 dollars when it was only 6 weeks) it is like an advance used to buy toiletries and other things while you are there.. They will also take out of that the cost of your Issued items other than uniform items. such as towels, binder, pens, markers, combo lock, and whatnot.

First misconception: You don't get extra pay because you are married. Basic pay is basic pay, regardless of dependants. Allowances are different and have different rules, depending on what the allowance is for.

You may or may not recieve BAS, the rules on that have changed so I can't give you a good answer on that one.

You will get BAH, housing allowance. In most cases it does not cover the entire cost of rent and utilities. There will be out of pocket. Also, it won't be quick. Don't depend upon that money to be there for at least the first few months. (If it shows up early, great, but don't depend upon it!!)

You can find the pay charts online, see below.
And you can find out BAH rates through the next link. Use the zip code for where your spouse will be living.

    Good luck!!
