How does a 21 year old get to be a Superdelegate anyway?

Question

I heard they were party insiders and elected officials. What qualifications could that nerd possiblely have and how exactly did he become a Superdelegate? That is who is choosing the next President?

Apparantly it's even easier to become a DNC member than I thought!

Can't remember his name. He was on Dan Abram's show on MSNBC last night talking about his date with Chelsea Clinton.

Ran against who and who voted? I've never heard of a Superdelegate election, are they done in secret?

That guy was elected to a position within the Wisconsin DNC when he was like 18.

Edit: I don't remember exactly, but it was a position within the state party. I don't believe it was a public election.

They said it was a state wide campaign and he got elected. But I've never heard of a state electing superdelegates like that. In Alabama, we elected the pledged delegates....but that was a first.

On Good Morning America this morning, they reported that this 21 year old ran for a position on the Democratic National Committee and won it.

In doing so, he became one of the democratic party's superdelegates.

And that's how he got to have breakfast with Chelsea Clinton. She called him up and had breakfast with him to insure that he commits to Hillary.

I see where somewhere said he won in Wisconsin. So now it all makes sense why Chelsea ate breakfast with him.

Polls show that Obama is poised to win Wisconsin. So Hillary's camp has decided to go after all of that's state's superdelegates to help her get the nomination.

It's really sickening.

Age is irrelevant. If he got the position and was voted in so be it. Good for him.

EDIT: Yep he ran - for a spot in the Wisconsin Democrat National Committee and won. Not a secret.

Don't be jealous. Participate more in the process and one day you too can become a superdelegate.

Jason Rae obviously has a genuine concern for the party..if he did a statewide campaign at 17yrs of age to become a superdelagate..he was not given the spot..he was elected to it. Its also telling that everyone so far here seems to comment about his breakfast with Chelsea as if it were a date...and how the Clintons are going after his vote.. however..no one has said much about the fact that he also mentioned in his interview with Dan that he has also had a meeting with Obama & conversations with John Kerry. Its Politics people.. Of course BOTH campaigns are expected to go after these votes..

In June of 2004, Jason was elected as a Democratic National Committee member of the Wisconsin state party, which holds a superdelegate vote. At the age of 17, Jason defeated a state legislator for the seat.

Superdelegates include current or former elected office holders or party officials who are allowed to cast their vote for any candidate in the party's race for the nomination. Unlike convention delegates, which are assigned to a candidate based upon the number of votes a candidate receives in a primary or caucus, superdelegates are not obligated in any way to vote for the candidate receiving the most votes.

Isn't a 21 year old a perfect superdelegate? Who better to choose the next leader of this country than someone poised to prepare for the future? I would rather have intelligent young people make choices for politics than an old, rich guy who is only looking out for #1.
