Could i have miscarried one twin but not the other?

levels went from 72 to 47 then down to 42 but are now back at 47. another test due in a week. i know this is symptomatic of early miscarriage, especially since i have had bleeding...no cramps or clots, what are my chances of still having viable pregnancy seeing numbers are rising? are these figures too low and is it possible for hcg to rise after miscarriage. i am so confused. dr not opting for d&c which makes me wonder if there is still hope. there is a history of twins on the father's side. i heard you can lose one and not the other in what seems to be a complete miscarriage. im just concerned about levels as they are already very low

That happenned to a friend of mine a few years ago. Because there were no clots she was offerred an immediate scan where one foetus was seen to be healthy along with an empty second sac. My friend was 9 weeks pregnant and didn't know she was carrying twins before this.

I wish you well.

Edited to add that the surviving foetus remained healthy and is now a very healthy 9yr old girl.

It is possible that you lost one twin, and are still carrying one baby. I think thats why the dr wont do a D/C.

That is always a possiblility. But an eptopic pregnancy is also very likely. Your hcg can do funky things when you have an eptopic pregnancy going on. You should really have an u/s to make sure that isn't the case.

I am sorry to hear about your probable loss. When I miscarried I was told that if my HCG doubled after 48 hours it was a viable pregnancy, if it dropped it was a miscarriage, and if they remained about the same it could be an ectopic. I dont really know what else to say, it could be possible to have lost on twin but I am unsure how that would affect your hormone levels.
Sorry I cant be more positive - but miracles can happen so try and stay as positive as possible until you know for definate whats going on. Take care x

Hey Sarah! DONT GIVE UP HOPE!!! Back in October, I went for an ultrasound since I was pregnant, (dont remember the weeks to be exact). A week later I started bleeding. Sure enough, I had a misscarriage. I didnt understand since my hormones were tripling every day! But then a subsequent ultrasound done the week after, and low and behold, There was a baby! The conclusion was made that I lost a twin. (The pregnancy before this once, I had a set of twins that I lost at 3 months). Regardless, I am now 25 weeks pregnant with a strong and healthy baby inside. I hope to God you have the same great news and that you are pregnant with a healthy baby! Good Luck!

This happened to my mother's best friend. She lost one twin, but the other was born a few months later perfectly healthy. I hope it works out for you.
