Anyone else have experience with an infant and Claritin?

I just spoke with the doctor and he suggested I try 2 ml of Claritin at night for my 9 1/2 month olds' allergies. Has anyone else had experience with an infant on Claritin or allergies? Were their any side effects?

I have used children piriton for my daughter and as she got older chemist (respected) own brand antihistamine. Never had any side effects and they have treated her allergies quickly.

I have not used it consistantly as my daughters allergies are to sun creams and some other skin creams so need to have it in incase she reacts to it. Sun creams can be really bad and she can swell up to twice her size with her eyes closed and bright red and my mum panicing if her tongue is swelling and this strange looking child giving you a grin would be amusing if not terrifying.

Claritin is a good medication as far as side effects go. There normally are not any. But for some, it can cause drowsiness but this is generally not any where close to the same kind of drowsiness the Benadryl or Zyrtec will cause. It's a very safe medication.

    Good luck

We were advised that we could use Claritin instead of Benedryl to help with a drippy nose that causes a cough and interferes with a child's sleep. And that Claritin was preferred because it required less frequent dosing.

But we didn't think it worked as well as Benedryl, and it was more expensive.

Note, though, we weren't dealing with allergies. It might be awesome in your case.

And no, we didn't see any side effects. (But we don't see any side effects, except for mild sleepiness, with Benedryl, either...)
