I've taken up to 60mg of a similar drug Cipramil but didn't gain weight... are you on the pill or other contraception? that could be the culprit !

(Prozac 20mg made me lose so much weight I had to switch to Cipramil and that works a charm)

yes... and there are W A Y more serious, permanent side effects than that. I took it for 5 years. It saved my life! But now i use doctor monitored drug-free supplements to actually heal my brain and kidneys [very much involved in the neurotransmitter processes]. Soon i'll be able to be off anything at all for life-long depression, because my body chemistry will be rebalanced and functioning properly. Check out the not-so-consumer-friendly site [for doctors] below. It has LOADS of information and you can call them to see where a doctor is in your area. Make sure you go to one who's certified by them. This is a medical doctor laboratory tested / developed alternative to pharmaceuticals, for MANY conditions, including weight gain. [i don't work for them... they just gave me back a healthy body after being ravaged by drugs, and i want others to know they can live drug free and happy. http://www.neuroassist.com/ Be sure to click on DBS Labs Website link. So glad you asked!

Short term, people may gain weight, stay the same, or lose weight - it depends upon the effects you experience. Some people experience the stimulant effect of appetite suppression or nausea and can lose weight; other people may get the appetite cravings/blood sugar changes and gain weight; others seemingly remain at their usual weight.

Long-term, however, the picture is different and weight gain is the trend. There are various reasons this may occur. The phenomenon has long been reported e.g. the link below from 1998

yes, it can, not all people, ....but some, ALL ssri inhibitor drugs can cause weight gain or loss, ...also can actually cause greater depression too.
BUT the weight gain is not significant, 5 to 10 , thats about it.
I gained weight from that, but mine was due to the depression, ...every single anti dep. i was on, did not work for me, ..i went off ALL meds 2 years ago, ..despite all doctors advice, and i've never felt BETTER! so dont ALWAYS just take something cus a doctor says you need it, ...keep in mind, every script they write out for a drug, they get paid from the drug company!

I had to stop taking it because it killed my appetite completely. I started on 20 mgs. for about 2 months and couldn't eat at all without getting sick to my stomach.
Either way, yes it can cause weight gain as well.

NO! Prozac will not make you gain weight.

Prozac wired me so tightly that I couldn't relax enough to pee if some other dude was right next to me. A couple of people who have responded even purported that you might gain weight. All I can do is laugh!! Take a look at the package insert!

Not only has experience shown me that weight gain is not a side effect, but one of listed side effects is weight loss.

As a matter of fact, weight loss is most definitely one of the side effects of any SSRI.

Even when Prozac first came onto the market, one of the reasons it could be prescribed (however, not recompensed by insurance companies) was for the purposes of weight loss. Look it up!

There are a lot of people out there who will tell you anything.
