The real Hoyt family story?

I reacently saw an AWESOME trailer for the upcoming horrer movie, "The Strangers". It said it was based on a true story, taking place at 1801 Clark Road on February 11, 2005, about 3 assialents going after a couple with the last name Hoyt. Does anyone know what the real story is, and if it's actully true? I really want to know, and i cant find any information.

Good question, actually. I've been reading up on this, as The Strangers looks very, very scary! I'm not 100% sure, though. I've heard that it was a Manson-type murder scene, and I've also heard that the Hoyt-incident was just made up. But who knows!

Either way, this movie is going to be insanely frightening. Not sure if you saw the new trailer, but that part where Liv Tyler is just standing there, and the killer is standing a few feet behind her in that doorway. Whooo, gives me the chills just thinking about it.

Thanks! I'll be sure to try and find some more info on it! I can't wait for it to come out in May!
i couldn't find any info about a Hoyt family being murdered in February of 2005. If it is true they changed the names or date.

I saw the trailer for The Strangers &searched for the Hoyt Family.I am a Criminal Justice Major so I dug really deep but only got a little. Since the movie claims that it is "inspired" by true events and not BASED on them, it is a redone version of The Texas Chainsaw movie, with adifferent plot!

I read that the movie itself is based off of the French film "ils". Which is loosely based on a Austrian couple being murdered by three teenagers at their summer home in the Czech Republic.

You see a direct reference to "Hoyt" in "The Texas Chains saw Massacre" on google, You can find no real information about the claimed murders online. Its fake, which means its a sad, sad joke of a film

im just throwin this out there but my theory is there was no hoyt family or any real murder that took place febuary 11th 2005 i think thats in there to spice up tha movie nd what they did was make the movies based on events that really happen i.e. the keddie resort murders in california in 1981

supposedly this movie is based (very loosely) on the Sharon Tate murders commited by the manson family.

Writer Bryan Bertino"inspired by"explained:I lived ina house in the middle of nowhere.Once our parents were out&someone knocked on thedoor&my sister opened it.Some people askd for someone that didn't live there. If no one was home, theyd break into the house."

Another theory maybe?
If it is loosely based than according to this link its VERY loose.
Im trying to find the family behind this too - no luck so far...

If you go to the official site www.thesrangers.net in the production notes, Bertino specifically says that he was "inspired" by his childhood home in the middle of nowhere. In fact others have said it already, but noone wants to believe it.

The movie totally sucks... I mean... it was slow... and the actors didn't do correct expressions, there wasn't any emotion... Yes it was scary sometimes.. and suspenseful but not at all like expected..

The Strangers movie was inspired by this murder in 1981
