This will sound terribly gross, but it has worked for me many, many times. The next time you take a shower, clean yourself really well and then use your index finger to gently push the hemorrhoid(s) back inside. You should feel instant relief (I'm crossing my fingers for you). It's when hemorrhoids are on the outside getting irritated that I experience discomfort.

Just a forewarning... if you have a vaginal birth, the hemorrhoids could be pretty awful after you give birth. Mine hurt worse than the stitches from my 3rd degree tear, and they bled so much it scared me. I had trouble walking or standing for extended periods of time because of the pain, but over a few weeks - using Tucks, witch hazel pads, and sitz baths - it got better and I rarely get them anymore. With this pregnancy (my second) I have only had hemorrhoids once, and I am now 5 months along. The old pushing it back in trick worked instantly.

Good luck feeling better!

Thanks, sounding gross, but I tried to tuck them back in, the one hurting the most wouldn't cooperate. But I have tucks with witch hazel that has been soothing and been taking hot baths a couple times a day with empson salt. That has been a relief also. Good Luck w/ your pregnancy.

Warm baths, and although it really hurts the first time, put salt on them. It's really effective!

OK at the risk of getting MANY 'thumbs' down on this one...my advise is to take 200mg of ibuprofen..

Before you all go crazy on me let me explain...

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, your far enough along to where 200mg wont affect your pregnancy and give you the MUCH needed relief your seeking. This is what my midwife told me to do towards the end of all my pregnancy's.

Go to the drug store and buy Dermoplast pain relieving spray (extra strength in the blue can). This is the same stuff they give you for pain relief after a vaginal delivery. It will numb that area and it wont bother you as much. I used lots for my bum after both of my vaginal deliveries. I would also try warms baths.

Unfortunately many women suffer from hemorrhoids during pregnancy and there really isn't much you can do. My husband actually gets this problem sometimes. Trey this:

    # Because persistent constipation can aggravate your hemorrhoids and prevent them from improving, take preventive measures to avoid constipation.

    # Take warm sitz baths, especially when the hemorrhoids are uncomfortable. Sit in a tub or pan of plain warm water, 3 or 4 times a day, for 15-20 minutes each time. (Large pharmacies and medical supply stores also sell convenient plastic sitz bath devices that fit into a toilet). The water will keep the area clean, and the warmth will reduce inflammation and discomfort. Be certain to dry the rectal area thoroughly after each sitz bath. If you work, you can still take a sitz bath in the morning, upon returning from work, and again at bedtime.

    # Apply a cold compress or icepack to the anal area, or try a cool cotton pad soaked in witch hazel.

    # Apply petroleum jelly or aloe vera gel to the anal area, or use an over-the-counter hemorrhoid preparation containing lidocaine or hydrocortisone.

    # After every bowel movement, clean the anal area with a witch hazel pad, a soothing baby wipe or a cotton cloth soaked in warm water. Be thorough but gentle. Aggressive rubbing and scrubbing, especially with soaps or other skin cleansers, can irritate the skin and make your hemorrhoids worse

Here is some info on how to avoid hemorrhoids:

    * Add more fiber to your diet — Set a goal of 25 to 30 grams of fiber daily, from such high fiber foods as beans, broccoli, carrots, bran, whole grains and fresh fruits. To avoid bloating and gas, add these foods gradually over a period of several days.

    * Drink adequate amounts of fluid — For most healthy adults, this is the equivalent of 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.

    * Begin a program of regular exercise — As little as 20 minutes of brisk walking daily can stimulate your bowel to move regularly.

    * Train your digestive tract to have regular bowel movements — Schedule a time to sit on the toilet at approximately the same time each day. The best time to do this is usually right after a meal. Do not sit on the toilet for long periods (it tends to make hemorrhoids push out and swell up).

    * Respond immediately to the urge to have a bowel movement — Do not postpone until the time is more convenient.

I really hope this helps. From what my husband says it sounds really painful. My husband's a big guy (6' 3", 220lbs) and he's been almost reduced to tears. It's gotten better since we changed his diet.

Rub ice cubes around the area....even into the rectum just slightly...they will cause the hemorrhoids to shrink.

    Good luck!

Witch hazel. Put witch hazel on a cotton ball and hold it on the hemorrhoids every time you go to the bathroom (not just when your bowels move) The witch hazel shrinks the hemorrhoids to where they are bearable. You can also put hydrocortisone cream on them. Have you called your OB? He can call you a prescription of Proctofoam in which you put in your anus and it helps shrink the hemorrhoids from the inside. Proctofoam is a hydrocortisone medication. But in the meantime try the witch hazel, it works.

I have used several things, which have helped: 1. Mother Love Rhoid Balm (put it in the refrigerator, and it feels nice and cool!); 2. Wise Women Herbs Suppositories; 3. Sitz bath using lavender and tea tree essential oils; Also, make sure you are not constipated which greatly aggravates the situation. It seems as if they will never go away, but rest assured, they will after giving birth (don't expect them to go away the day you give birth - it may take a little while!)
