Has anyone infused their own vodka or gin?

I'm going to infuse vodka with rosemary. If I like the results, I'm going to try infusing gin with lavender or some other herb. Has anyone had any personal experiences with infusing spirits?

What brand of vodka would you recommend to use? I don't want to use anything cheap & crappy.

I've found info online, but I'd like to hear personal experiences.

I haven't tried this, but you should try making your own vodka and gin! wow it's lovely!

Buying the ingredients & doing it, doesn't taste like smirnoff or glenns

Get a decent bottle, but nothing too high end in case you don't like the results.

I have had pepper infused vodka and ginger infused vodka, and both turned out pretty good. It was always fun to make people take a pull off the "mystery bottle" (pepper infused vodka) and watch their reactions. We mainly used it for bloody marys though.

I infuse vodka & gin (& tequila) all the time.

For vodka infusions I usually use Smirnoff or Skyy. For gin infusions I use Seagrams or Gordon's. They aren't crazy expensive and the infusions turn out quite well.

    I'm really into two flavor infusions (lime/ginger, blueberry/mint, orange/clove)

You can purchase bottles but I usually just use my old empties after I wash and dry them for a day or two.

    They make great gifts, too.

I did a bit of infusing experimentation last summer. I tried rosemary, dill, jalapeno, pear, pineapple, green tea and roiboss tea.

The rosemary was rather awful. I let it infuse for about 48 hours and it was just far too intense and didn't display the best of either the vodka or the rosemary.

The dill turned out a little better, but I never did find anything good to do with it.

The pineapple was OK, and the pear was not great, but not bad.

The two tea vodkas turned out very well though. Good enough to sip on their own, and worked out will in a few cocktails. Green tea vodka and dry vermouth make a nice green tea martini.

The jalapeno vodka was very spicy. Made a damn fine, yet very spicy, Bloody Mary.

Yes, I do this at least once a year!

My fruit of choice is pineapple. I use an entire pineapple, peeled and cut into long but thin strips.

For vodka I use Smirnoff, which I feel is the best value.

It only takes a couple of days to fully infuse if you cut the fruit thin. The resulting fruit is useless, not even good as a garnish.

    Hope that is helpful!

I love infuing vodka!! I try everything!! I love infusing it wit chilli's or other kinds of spicy ingredients...alos mint, marshmellows, mangoes, or any sort of fruit really!!! The best vodka to infuse it with is Ablute...mostly because the mouth of the bottle is wide( therefor easy to shove stuff in) also inexpensive...don't comprimise taste in vdka so you can get away cheap!!! GOOD LUCK!!
