Should there be a fat tax?
Keep in mind I live in Canada which has public health care. a pack of smokes can cost anywhere $7-$12 and about 90% is tax that goes straight into health care. Other than that everyone pays the same for health care. And fat people through there laziness are bogging down the health care system and eating up my hard earned tax money. So here's my proposal anyone over 15% bodyfat should have to pay a fat tax. And the more over weight you are the more tax you pay. Either that or fat people should be forced into rehab where they have to exercise and eat healthy an their not fat anymore.
Additional Details
I'm not being cruel they choose to be fat. And I have to pay for it. Smokers pay through the roof for their drain on the health care system. And yet fat people aren't taxed because everyones to afraid to hurt there feelings. Go step on a treadmill and fix your own problem and if you refuse you should have to pay for the consequences not me

K well if you all beieve in wrry about yourself so strongly then why not put smokes back to $1.50 a pack and take all the taxes off of them. Smokers are being discriminated against if people believe there should be no fat tax.

I wouldn't be completely against a tax for any unhealthy lifestyle. But sometimes I also think there should be an idiot tax.

You know, sometimes it's hereditary, and they can't help it.
And not everyone is going to agree with you because that proposal is just way too judgemental. Why don't you grab a few donuts and watch reruns of Friends.

I agree with you, but 15% body fat is too low. Women are BARELY able to have periods with 15% body fat. It would have to be more realistic...but other than that I'm with you
EDIT: and in response to the woman below me, I'd totally be for executing fat lazy people as well. I run 25-30 miles a week...it isnt FUN, but I do it. Anyone else can too.
EDIT: Well Mike, since you apparently missed health class... When women have a body fat percentage that is TOO low, they suffer from amennorhea, AKA : loss of monthly periods. I was simply saying that 15% is actually an unrealistic goal for the female population because women need more body fat than men to metabolize hormones necessary to fertility...got it now ?

You do realize that almost every woman alive would fall into that category, right?
You know what would help? I think we should execute anyone who is ill or who uses more than what you think their fair share of health care is. Let's take that a bit further and euthanize everyone over the age of 60 because we all know that they cost more than the young. We should limit households to one child and ban everything except fresh fruit and vegetables while rationing out milk because it contains fat. If a child weighs more than 2 pounds over the healthy weight limit for his age and height he should be sent to a camp where he can work off his fat and contribute to the common good.
See how stupid you sound? Sheesh. Live your life and stop worrying about everyone else.

I live in Canada aswell. You might aswell say anyone born with a permanent disease should be denied access to health care for having a chronic, long term condition.
Or that if you injure yourself out of your own stupidity, you should be denied healthcare. The whole point of the system is equality, dumbass.
Don't like it, move to a country without universal health care, and pay for your own.
I also know overweight people who have yet to have a serious medical condition. Having over 15% body fat doesn't always mean fat, let alone unhealthy.
I don't give a crap what I am paying in taxes, as long as I get what I need when I need it. I'm sure I'll have a chronic condition one day, that would be very pricey to treat if I had to do it myself.
I'm glad your tax dollars will assist me when that day comes.
