Why would Barack Obamas birth certificate list his fathers RACE as African?

Question

His mother is listed as caucasion.... His father is from the continent of Africa and the country of Kenya.
in 1961 black people were not refered to as African-American or even African for that matter. In 1961 his fathers race would have been listed as negro or black no matter what country he was from.
The birth certificate provided on Obamas new webpage is a duplicate copy and not the original.Either way photo shop can make a nice looking certificate that would fool many.

The edited part spells N....E.G...R...O which was an accepted word back in 1961. I guess yahoo wants to censor us for everything.

If a cantanese person gave birth in america the birth certificate would list their race as asian and not cantanese.
AFRICAN is not a race. Black is!

The seal on the photo is also ink.
Every legal birth certificate has a raised seal which would still show up in a scanned photo. The raised seal is not visible here.

You make a good point. "African" was not and is not a race.

I did look at the link. That looks fake to me. I do geneology all the time, and I've examined a lot of birth certificates. They generally hold a lot more information - for example places of residence for the parents, and hospital, and parents actual places of birth. There is something very weird here, unless they deleted a lot for some reason.

Also, the type on that looks really weird to me - like they took a green certificate graphic and put type on top with a graphics program - it stands out and is way too sharp compared to the background.

Since his father was from Africa when asked the race of his father his mother probably said African and that is why it is on his birth certificate.

That word would be closer to "race" than "African." "African" is not a race; "Ne g r oi d" is. African is more of an ethnicity though, as a continent, there are many ethnicities there. Would a White South African be considered "African?" How about an Egyptian? Both of them are White and both are Africans. (Apparently, one cannot write a scientific classification of certain races on YA for fear of offending some with reality.)
