What messages of hope would you like to send to the victims of the Victorian bushfires?

Many have lost family and friends, thousands have lost everything they own and communities like Kinglake and Marysville have been all but destroyed. What message of hope and support do you want to give to the Victorian bushfire victims?

We are praying for you every day.
We can't say we know how you feel - we don't. We can't imagine the tragedy you've been through.
You're wonderful communities and wonderful people. It may be hard to count your blessings, but I'm sure you already are. Many of you have lost your homes and your livelihoods, but you have your loved ones - maybe missing a few - but you still have them. And you will pull through.
Be assured that every day we're all doing something to help and that we're thinking of you. Even here in Queensland where we sit and curse the endless drizzle and wish to send the torrential rain over to where you are in Victoria, just to end this mess and bring some comfort.
Donations are being made left, right and center - be sure of it. Schools are chipping in, as are neighbourhood bushfire drives, offices, businesses and all other support groups.
Just 2 months ago we were in King Lake and Wittlesea and Yea and that area for a drive while we were visiting family in Melbourne. We hadn't seen it that green and lush in years.

Now it's gone.
Fire is fierce and final, and there can't be any greater pain than knowing everything you've worked for could be snatched away in a moment.

We are so sorry for your loss, and we are going to do everything we can to get through this.
We're Australian, we're tough, and we can do this.

Fires are horrible disasters, as a former victim myself I can only say, it takes time and work, and sometimes feels like your not really getting anywhere, each day you climb out of the ashes a little more and there is a light at the end. It'll take time, but you will see the sunshine through the darkness of the ashes again.

Our prayers are with you all.

That Australia is behind them 100%. You can see just by watching on the TV that everyone is doing there best to help out. No one is ever prepared fully for this sort of tragedy.
We live close to Geelong and could see the smoke, it was terrifying, and the winds were so strong.

Imagine trying to escape a fire ball travelling at 170km per hour, black smog all over the road and your car becoming a fernis. People getting into spa's and water tanks were boiled alive, its heart breaking.

The person responsible for these fires should be locked up. God I wish capital punishment was still around. I hope they are consumed with guilt right now, they should prepare themselves to become australia's most hated. If jail doesn't kill them, i'm sure someone else will.

It's not only the families that have been torn apart but family pets and wildlife have also perished.

It's a tragic, unimaginable disaster and I feel deeply for all these victorians.

I cried listening to the accounts of those who have lost loved ones. The pictures of devastation and grief are heartbreaking. Even though the fires have not effected my family or I, they have touched me profoundly - I am sure there is not an Australian in the country who is not feeling this right now - our thoughts are with you.

As i watch the internet today on Victorian Bush fires, tears fell down from my cheeks. There is hope if you believe in Jehovah God Almighty that even if your properties and your loved ones have gone.In Psalms 34:18 says"Jehovah is near to those you are broken hearted; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves"and in 2 Corinthians 1:3 reads
"Blessed be the God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Tender Mercies and the God of all comforts.

I am on a disability pension, and managed to donate to the Red Cross. I have also donated blood and started collecting toiletries, towels, sheets, toys etc.from friends, for when the immediate danger is over and people start to rebuild.

Not everyone can afford massive donations, but remember every little bit helps. Please consider donating any amount you can afford, no matter how small..

To the people who have suffered, lost family and friends, lost their homes and their livelihoods, my heart breaks. I can't even begin to imagine how you feel. I can say that you are in my thoughts every day. Australia is right there with you, and we feel your pain and share in it with you. I will make every effort I can to help you in any way possible. If you need, ask. I and the rest of Australia will give you what you need.

To the firefighters and those volunteering to help with food and drink for the firefighters, all the businesses who have given goods and money, the wonderful charity organisations helping these poor souls, and all those amazing medical staff who are dealing with devastation we could never have imagined, there are no words that describe how much you are appreciated. Without you, we would all be facing so much more horror, devastation and pain. Thank you.

There are no words to convey the sympathy the rest of Australia feels for your unimaginable losses. Like others all I can offer is the donation to the Red Cross Appeal. We cannot imagine your pain and suffering. I don't believe in gods but humanity is certainly here and we will do all that we can do to ease the burden, and we feel sorrow it cannot change the past.

Detective Leane would like families who have lost loved ones and property to know that everyone in Australia shares your desperation and grief at this terrible tragedy. I encourage people to donate to the Red Cross Victoria Bushfire Appeal and anyone who thinks they may have ANY information regarding suspected arsonists should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

May the Aussie spirit prevail as you put your lives together. My family's thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones or homes during the tragedy. I was a student and spent four years with my family in Melbourne (94 - 97) and could not help but cry when I saw the devastation on TV. I know that Australians stand together in the face of adversity and know that goodwill will prevail.
    Never Give up.

My children where all born at Healsville hospital so i know the area fairly well. What a devistating time this is.My prayers go out to all who lost everything. i cant even begin to understand or comprehend why someone would delibertly light these sorts of fires. Maybe its time to bring back the death penalty.

" I'm sorry for your loss."
You're stunned and hurt now -a time to grieve, but you will be better.
My sympathy won't mean very much to you perhaps.
But all I wanted- after a tragic loss of a loved-one and suddenly displaced from home, was for someone to say this to me.
It put me in perspective again -where I was, so to speak, on a new page and it allowed me to begin again.

Somehow you will find your own way of coping - running on empty for a while but please do accept help as it is offered. Don't think you're on your own in this. Get what you need from all the agencies available.
And ask anybody to help even if it's for the mundane of tasks.
Everyone will be pleased to help in any way we can and later you'll
    do it automatically.
You survived the horror - yes it's horrible what happened, but there's a reason for your life to go on now.
It won't be the same but there is a big job to be done.
There are measures as we speak to mittegate against the chances of this type of bushfire being as severe and as deadly again.

That might not be a comfort to you now...
Focus on the future -hang in there and talk to everyone about your own story. Discuss the possibilities of what you want to do next.
In time you'll figure it out and step towards settling down again.

Ask the kids to write a story about the fire or let them draw and paint.
It will draw out their fears and calmly take them through the rough patches. You might keep a diary too - and vent your own feelings.

Where ever life takes you God Bless you brave and wonderful aussies.

Having been through a firestorm similar to this on a smaller scale at Sutherland in 1994, where 92 homes and 1 life was lost in a matter of hours, I can only say that the memory will always be with you, but as time goes by, it will become fainter until it is locked away as more pleasant memories replace the horror you have endured. For years, the smell of burning bush would cause me to get teary eyed and feel distressed. I have gotten over that, however I couldn't hold back after seeing the hell you people have been through.

To all those who have lost friends and loved ones, there isn't much I can say or do, except to say the whole country is sharing your anguish and grief to some extent and I hope you have friends and family to help you through the days and weeks ahead.

Homes and towns can be rebuilt. So can lives and I wish all who have been to hell and back a speedy recovery.

I helped fight the fires around Menai, Bangor and Como for most of that disasterous weekend and felt better for doing so. It lessened the feeling of helplessness that I would have felt otherwise. I joined the Menai RFS the next month.
