If we're in the first wave of swine flu, shouldn't we be aiming to catch swine flu (click to read more)?

Right now we're in the first wave of swine flu, that's generally when the flu weakens itself so that it can spread around easier.
They say that the 2nd wave, is the killer one. So if we catch it now wouldn't that mean we'd have the antibodies to avoid any fatalities during the second wave?

I understand many people have died from Swine flu, but there are also many that are perfectly fine. I mean here are some quotes:
"I've had worse paper cuts"
"I have swine flu, i feel fine, i want to go back to school"

Just wondering, i mean i'm sure everyone knows of this issue. Correct me if i'm being wrong anywhere. Thanks.

Additional Details

@ krusty, yes but we don't know how long the vaccine would take... But that's a point i didn't consider as well. Thanks.

On the subject of the health authorities not doing enough, i'd say they are doing alot, actually. Look at the hype that the media has created about it through the health authorities.

And then again, if the swine flu does get worse, the health authorities don't want to get blamed for NOT doing enough.

The flu doesn't actively weaken itself as there is no thought process involved. Flu is caused by viruses which arent even considered to be living things.

In any situation you have to weigh advantages and disadvantages. The 2nd wave that you describe would only be a small probability so its not worth taking the risk being infected by the virus now as we dont know the full consequences yet.

A better way is to wait for the vaccine which is being developed atm. That uses attenuated viruses or virus antigens which stimulate your body to make the specific antibody-producing cells without giving you the disease

True, we don't know how long the vaccine will take to develop and go into mass production, but we also don't know if there is going to be another outbreak. I wouldn't worry if I were you :P

Catching the 2009 flu could be a good step for some people; it seems not to be dangerous to most people.
Myself, I'm waiting for a vaccine. My health isn't great, not that I think I'd die from it, but I just don't want to go through it in my weakened state. If I can avoid it.
We don't know in what direction the 2009 flu will mutate, or even whether it will stick around. The 1976 swine flu created considerable alarm in the beginning, but then fizzled out. [Of course I wouldn't count on this flu doing the same thing!]
If you want to have a Swine Flu party, go ahead, just use your judgment in whom you invite.

That's what we need to prepare for now not later. WHEN this 2nd wave comes it may be as bad a 1918 and kill millions. I feel that governments are not doing enough. If you caught it now you will not have any antibodies because they are no cures for it or a vaccine yet. You as an individual can make preparations when it is confirmed a 2nd wave has started, hopefully not in your country so you will have time to prepare.

Good luck and god bless to every1

I truly believe that we can't afford to wait for any vaccine to be correct anyway, but should that keep us away from a yearly flu shot also. I, for one believe that if we throw ourselves into the face of a possible train wreck then we need to be prepared for the worse. There is no way to know how this virus will effect you (personally), ahead of time. Would you be among to be in line for a vaccine that comes out against HIV, or would you stay away from the possibility of getting it in the first place? These are all personal decisions and so being human we can only do what we ourselves believe and advise others to do the same. When you have additional knowledge in anything, then share it for the good of humanity and move on. Good luck and God Bless
