Plant growing tips For Blackthumbs LOL?

Hi everyone, well ive just bought some new seeds on ebay and i also bought some plants from bunnings and as ive tried to grow plants before and killed them all i was hoping i could get some extra advice from people on here. I kinda need specifics like, how much sun do they like, how much water and how often ect.... The plants i already have growing are, 4 strawberry plants in hanging baskets (1 of which has started turning droopy...2 much water???) 2 snapdragons in hanging bakets which seem to be doing great and a lil green plant with pink flowers which also seems to be going good....tho ive only had them all for about 2-3weeks. And the seeds ive bought but am delaying planting of untill i know more is, Evening scented stock, Tomatos, purple carrots and drama queen poppies. I reallly would like to know the water requirements and sun requirements for as many of these plants listed above. Thank you very much :D

Additional Details

The only reason the strawberries and the snap dragons are in hanging baskets is because the instructions that came with them said they were ideal for hanging baskets.....the strawberries are strawberry sweethearts and i think the snap drsagons are "mini" snapdragons if that helps

baskets Are good for strawberries and most plants. the baskets are nice because they keep the fruit away from ants.

and she is wrong about snapdragons prefering full sun. they cannot take strong summer heat. now, for spring or fall times then yes they would take a full sun position but during a hot summer they could appreciate some shade at midday. Poppies are the same way, they like sun and brightness but do not like heat. so they are like lots of delicate flowers who would prefer bright mornings but will bloom longer if they don't get hot afternoons.

how to grow snapdragons:

u can get nice Specific instructions for Any plant by using search engine, just tell it "how to grow _____".

about how to grow in general, main secret is nice soil. because if plant is growing actively then it will do really well even if it has an accident. So, you want to make sure it has nice roomy and healthy area for roots.

a good way to plant is using compost. if you are planting in the dirt outside then use 1/3 compost in the big hole you dig. but if it is in a basket or indoors then use 1/3 compost and 1/3 of your regular dirt (sifted for huge bugs or rocks) and 1/3 a cheap potting soil.

if the plant has been in a pot/basket for a while then it might be outgrowing that size or it might have used up all the goodness in the soil. so you might need to repot. and or if it is in the Ground then hole size should be rather large. example; a large tomato bush could use a hole 18" deep and 3' wide.

adding a few fertilizers to the soil is good. nice ones are kelp and bone meal. the kelp will give all micronutrients and some potassium but the bone meal will give phosphorus and calcium...so that is fine for flowering. But during the first stage of growth you will want one more fertilizer, you will want nitrogen. same for all plants that are growing greenery, they need nitrogen during that time. a good place to get it is fish fertilizer. a gallon of concentrate can be found in regular garden supply section, same as the dry kelp and bonemeal and compost.

how much water. main issue is, you want the soil evenly moist all the time. so, if you made the soil nice and porous by adding stuff then you can soak heck out of that soil once a day. but if u have a water shortage or a desert loving plant then you can water a little less. or if you live in a very humid area you might water less, like on the coast or deep south USA or whatever.

an area with water shortage you can use a thick mulch to help conserve water so then u can water every three days instead. but if it is one of those humid areas then you might wait a week between soakings.

that mulch can be good for all situations because it is feeding the soil. and that is how you get healthy soil for the future years. so feel free to pile mulches on there of all types at all times because the worms and bacteria will benefit and feed soil.

if a plant Does lack water and wilt, then nice thing is, it will recover fine within an hour or two of watering it.

how much water is needed to soak an area? that can vary but the general rule is one inch of water per one foot of soil depth (After the soil is rather moist/like a new soil might need extreme soaking). way to tell is digging down to see if soil is wet. you only need to do test a few times before you see how your soil(s) act. test can work on pots/baskets too if you make one without a plant.

about the drooping plant. if it is from too much water then it means the water is accumulating inside the pot. You can tell by watching to see if water drains out the bottom when you water it. or you can turn it over and check inside yourself. if it is not letting the water out then the plant can die real quick, like a couple of days at most if it is completely drowning. but a couple other things can make droopy plants, like not Enough water or Bugs, so, check for extremely small bugs under all leaves and check for moisture deep in the soil; problem with water is, sometimes you pour it on plant But if plant was too dry then the soil is hard and lets water run down sides and out bottom of pot but soil it's self doesn't have time to get very wet.

when it is time to plant seeds, the main thing i have to watch for is keeping the soil moist because the surface dries in an hour or two sometimes and so the seeds dry out and die. i have decided it is too difficult to do unless i use plastic cover on soil to keep it moist. some people use mulches to keep soil moist but i like 100% success. Honestly, i even pre-germinate my seeds before putting them in the ground under plastic. but hey, it gives you

but hey, it gives you 100% germination.

like this:

^i put it on my tv to keep warm and seeds sprout in 24 - 72 hours usually. but the satellite receiver and computer monitor are too warm and will fry seeds. They like 89F.

when the little white root pops out of the seed then i put it in the ground:

when covering it with soil i never press down from above. but you can firm soil from sides a little to give it a foothold for wiggling/growing out of the ground. The soil needs to be Completely soaked before seed goes in. then plastic goes on:

plastic will fog up If it is sealed And soil was completely soaked:

plastic can even be used if u want to 'root a cutting'. like a branch from a plant/fruit tree/etc, that you want to make a new plant from:
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/C…

that way any time you see a nice bush or such you can take a cutting without having to buy from ebay, heh heh. even tomatoes can be cloned like that.

but also plastic bags can be used a pots themselves:

if i start my seedlings inside, i use a light like this:

for advice about local conditions you can try your agricultural extension website although some are useless :-(
http://www.csrees.usda.gov/Extension/ind…

but if yours is good they will have a planting schedule and other advice, like types of plants that do well in your area. if your site is no good, u can use the one for NewYork for general advice and or try a site that seems to have same weather as you. but also, here is a nice info page and it also has link for 2way discussion:
