Bad Game Mentality Solution?

Hi! =] Okay, well I've known this for awhile, but never bothered trying to fix it and well...I want to fix this problem of mine. ><"

Basically, my mentality in tennis sucks (weak). I am horrible at analyzing my opponent's weaknesses. Also, I'm not sure if this has to do with mentality or skills, but when I play a match with someone I know I can probably beat, I always end up going to deuces and then losing the game. So yeah... is there any way to fix this? (I don't play matches often... only the pre-season practices =/) Thank you in advanced!

I think you solved your own problem , you don't play a lot of matches , but it is not the only problem .

You don't have to think much if you are winning , but if you are having problems closing your games it means that your opponent is reading you well , and this is when thinking takes place ,see what your opponent is doing , were is she going , what shots is she sending your way, also notice what is your opponent avoiding , is she running around her backhand ? Is she trying to get an angle so she can send it down to your backhand ?

In other words don't give your opponent what she is looking for , take the time to bounce the ball between serves to think about the last point or at the very least at changeovers , if you are having a tough time don't run around to the other side , take your time to think what points you had trouble with , but if in the other hand you are winning then keep doing what works and try to read any change on your opponent's game since she will be thinking what she could do next to try to trow you off.

Good luck !

you psych yourself out too much. the best advice someone ever gave me was this. view each point seperately. so if you make a bad shot or it's tied up deuce or whatever, dont pay attention to what happened before, just be 100% into each shot as if it's its own thing. i have to say after practicing this technique for a few months i got so good at it that i could get myself in this deep zone of concentration where a whole hour of playing would go by and it would feel like 10 minutes cause my concentration was so focused. good luck..tennis is the best game ever!

Every game has a basic skill. And it complies to every game or sport. The waitin game! play normally and wait for the correct moment to attack your rival. Too bad ppl use it only while playin chess.

Sometimes when we play someone we feel we should beat, we can fall into the trap of only playing as well as we need to. The other problem is we can start playing their game. It is important to play your game, try and control the point and only think ONE point at a time. Even the Pro's will tell you tennis is best played one-point-at-a-time. When you are in the pre-game hit up, take notice when you hit to the opponents back or forehand. Which is stronger and accurate and which is a bit less reliable. Don't forget it is also a game of angles so instead of worrying too much, take it easy, relax, have fun and take it one-point-at-a-time.
