Need help with binomials?

how would you factor x(squared)-7x+12=0? what would x be?

first since you have x^2 start out with:
(x )(x )

then put the signs in since the first sign is - put a - first then since the second sign is a + you know the signs will be the same so you get:

(x- )(x- )
now try to figure out what two numbers will multiply to equal 12 and add together to give you 7 and you get 3 and 4 so:

(x-3)(x-4)

to find x set both of these terms equal to zero so
(x-3)=0
(x-4)=0

then you get x=3 and x=4
