He used to be 8, then he changed his number to 24.

His first high school number was 24, he then switched to 33 but was not available during his rookie year b/c its was Kareem's. He also wore 143 for a camp, which if you add up (1+4+3) is 8.
He later switched to 24 which he still has.

he was 8 since his rookie year, but he used to where 24 in junior leagues in italy or us when he was growing up.

and when phil jackson returned he swapped to 24 supposedly as a new chapter in his basketball career
