Who's in favour of extending the amount of players on the bench?

because of the amount of rotations that we have now and the game being a lot more exciting to watch because of this factor.
i think maybe 1 or 2 more extra players on the pine would make it a big difference.

I do because this year we had some games that where teams were severely effected by a lack of fully fit players during games.
I would also like the substitute player system they trialled in the preseason brought in. So if a team looses a player to a serious injury during a match they won't be disadvantaged.

great answer. yours was the one i was looking for.
even though we are still going to have players injured and not return during a game.
im in favour if this or bring in a substitute system where when a player is injured and cant return a team has a subsitute replacement.
thanks to all answers.

It wouldn't hurt having 1 or 2 more, the game is so much quicker these days, why not?

As for users saying the best 22 and final 22, we should not forget that once upon a time there were only 18 on the field, then they introduced a 19th man, that could only come on to replace 1 player and then that replaced player could not return, same thing when 2 reserves were introduced, then 3 , then what we have now, 4 interchangeable players, why not 6, we want to see the best footy we can see, with fresh players coming on all the time, it would help in this respect.

I'm against the idea. I like the idea of the best 22. By expanding the team size, I think you devalue the history of what it means to earn a game of AFL footy. It would make it a lot easier to get to 300 games for example and devalue the legend status that comes with being a 300 game player. I think that stamina and pacing a team's energy through a game is one of the intriguing aspects of footy. The way it is now, you can't go and spend all your energy in the 1st half or you will me over-run in the second half. I think it's fine the way it is now.

But shifty where does this stop...o.k so we add another 2 players now and the game gets even faster than it is now so players will get tired then in a few years from now people will be wanting another 2 players.

The game is fast enough as it is and frankly I would like to see it slowed down a bit (just a little bit) then hopefully we won't have so many players getting injured...and the skills just might improve a bit...there are so many turnovers these days which makes the games look scrappy all the time.

No. It will be getting more like basketball every day. Fair enough AFL is a lot speedier than it once was and teams go for athletes maybe more than they do for accurate footy skills (like getting it through the big sticks for instance). Hand passing is taking over kicking in many games. I think there are enough players on the bench and the staff on the ground are very cluey re slotting in a player unexpectedly and getting a run on when he is not covered. Don't want to interfere with the stamina aspect of a footy game. Hell years ago if a player was taken off he couldn't be put back on again (there used to be only 2 on the bench I think). Treat em mean keep em keen!!

I personally think this is a brilliant idea -That way we won't have any 'Max Hudghton over Zac Dawson?" arguments, or "Steven King over Mark Blake" calls anymore- those are just two examples of many - I actually can't find any negatives from this idea, apart from the fact that players will get less game-time - But it's footy, they will want a break to get refreshed and then GO IN HARD!

    There are positives and negatives.
    Positives..
    - More players will get the opportunity to play
    - Less stress for coaches = Better results
    - More competition, with less-tired guys running around

    Negatives
    - If many star players are out, will struggle to make up a final team
    - Kills the history of the "Final 22"

    NO

We have enough now, any more and it will end up like Gridiron with whole defencive and offensive units sitting on the sidelines. I do agree that a player ruled medically unfit by unbiased docors should be able to be replaced though.
