Essondon and richmond play for the kevin sheedy cup?

i have emailed the afl and asked why there is no ron barrasi cup between melbourne and carlton (no answer as yet)
can any of you fans out there think of a player that has had a good career between 2 teams to have a cup named after him?

I actually like the idea of a Barassi cup. He is a person who gave a huge chunk of his life to football and should be recognised in some way.

This specific game thing could go on and on and, whilst I do think we have seen some amazing players over time, I think you have to draw the line somewhere.

To the imbecile who wrote why would Essendon want to play Richmond in a specialised game....go to the game and you will see first hand why.

Richmond and Essendon have an amazing rivalry that goes back over decades and Kevin Sheedy is still a much revered personality at Windy Hill. His contribution, not just the 27 years of coaching, but to development of the game through junior and indigenous channels as well as his little known support of women in football stand him head and shoulders above the crowd. He is an icon of the game and this is richly deserved.

i must say that i am disapointed that no one mentioned the bomeber thompson cup that mat exsist one day between essondon and geelong.

Essendon and Richmond already play "Dreamtime at the G" which is significant in recognising the aboriginals/indigenous contribution that has been made to Australian Rules football.

Perhaps when Essendon play a team with a strong history behind rivalries and games with Sheeds, they should award the cup. Such as a team like West Coast (Who could ever forget the Jacket wave?) or Carlton.

A ron barrassi cup would be a great idea for Melbourne/Carlton, the man was a passionate demon and deserves to have his name etched in todays game in some way.

They'd probably say they could have a Ron Barrasi Cup between North Melbourne (premiership coach) and Sydney, lol.

One bloke who comes to mind is Ian Stewart who won 2 Brownlows with the Saints and 1 with the Tigers, come to think of it i think there is already an Ian Stewart Cup played between the 2 sides.

They could have the Timmy Watson Cup between Essendon and West Coast, as the eagles drafted Watson but he never played a game with them, lol.

Why would anyone want to play Richmond in a special match - no-one would turn up to watch them. Also who would want to win the Kevin Sheedy Cup - he is remembered as a has-been who was given the boot by his club because he wouldn't go voluntary.

I can't think of anyone from SA who warrant having a match named in their honour. Maybe a few from Sydney & Brisbane but that's about it.

I like the idea of the Darren Jarman Cup between Adelaide and Hawthorn.

Jarman won premierships at both clubs and also kicked a **** load of goals for both clubs.
