Is it stupid to buy a car with 300,000ks on it for$8500?

Question

its a holden wh caprice 1999 model. the engine is a ls1 v8. the body is in mint condition,the interior is like brand new the car looks brand new!!!!
the car was owned buy a real estate agent that's why it has heaps of ks,he says the car itself runs like new,and it has been serviced every time it has been due ive seen the receipts. so what do you think?

no way ! dont forget other things that wear and tear kill ! motor for a start , gearbox or auto transmision, suspension components including shocks springs and bushes , brakes and brake rotors. it might look new but i doubt it will be very tight and those big luxury commodores dont hold value as well as the other model in the range. if you must have it try a test drive on a siimilar year and model with lower kms and see what you think then . ls1 are also known to chew oil so if a service has been skiped its very likely the motor could have been starved of oil. any way happy motoring

yea im not buying it know im gonna save a bit more and get a 2002 model with lower ks. chers mate.

Unless it is a classic Rolls Royce I would never pay that kind of money for a car with 300K miles on it. Pay to have it looked over by a professional mechanic (one that you pick) and see what they say. I never buy a used vehicle without having a professional mechanic inspect the vehicle. It takes about 3 hours and costs a little bit but it could wind up saving you a small fortune.

Even with a service history and good interior and bodywork the high mileage makes that price too high.
Get a quote for a replacement engine (I'm guessing around$2k) and remember that the gearbox, driveshaft and axles have also done that mileage and will need work soon.
I wouldn't offer more than $2000 tops.

$8500 for a 99? Dude, what the heck is the blue book value? Here is a link to a Caprice for resale. That's a crazy amount or he knows something that I can't even imagine.

Thats a butt load of miles. Trust me, you can find a better car for 8.5k. There are millions of cars for sale, it does not have to be that one car!

that car has about 100,000 ks more than normal and the price for it would be between $5,500-6,500 no more but check prices with a few car yards in your area and alsoo ask the dealer what it would be worth

That is too much to pay for such an old and used car. That car is worth perhaps $2000, but i would advise you to consult the blue book value.
