Christians - Science says that when you die, your brain simply de-activates?

Why is this so hard to accept?
Why is it so hard to accept, there is no heaven and there is no hell? Just life right now, and to make the most of the life we have.

Is it really worth hating people, for your religion. Just because you're insecure about death?

Science says that when we die, our brain simply de-activates? Why is that so hard to accept?

SO FRUSTRATING.

NO HE HASN'T. Just because some people with schizophrenia claim to be able to communicate with God doesn't make him real.

Why do people be beleive in the extremely unlikely? There is no evidence of anything supernatural happening. Ever. Only rational scientific explanations.

God has not proved himself. There are 3 books out right now - The Bible, the Quran and the Torah. Each of them is extremely flawed, and definately not the word of god to all rational and sane people.

This is so frustrating, you people are like a brick wall.

No-one has a spirit or a soul, it's a fairytale.

Isn't it better to not assume crazy idea's? And just to assume what is proven?

They can't even understand how their brain works, do you really expect them to understand how it will 'not' work?

I don't hate anyone because of my faith and yes your brain does "de-activate" when you die but thats when the idea of a soul comes into play. why is it so hard for people who believe different than me to accept that I have my beliefs too and just because you have different ones than me doesn't make you right?

Science cannot prove the existence or non-existence of the supernatural.

Just because our bodies die doesn't mean that there's not some portion of us (a soul, if you will) that lives on after death. Science can't prove that, one way or another. The only people who know are the dead, and the dead don't talk.

We don't hate people for our religion. Jesus tells us to love everyone, even our enemies. He says to bless those who persecute us.

Science may investigate the brain in bodily form, but there is more to the spirit that science will never understand. Jesus appeared to many of his followers over a period of 40 days after his resurrection. He was able to talk, walk and function in his glorified body.

Well.. religion is personal. Does it really matter to you personally if I'm a Christian? Its my business and nobody else's.
I don't discriminate or judge others based on their religion, because I'm aware of the fact that we are all entitled to believe in what we want.
I respect why atheists believe what they believe, so please respect my beliefs.

Doesn't your question presuppose that what you say is true?

"Why is it so hard to accept?" Because it isn't true. Why would I "accept" a lie?

Consciousness, by the laws of physics, can NOT be part of the brain. Where'd it come from? Have you even HEARD of deathbed visions, NDEs, OBEs, ADCs, etc.? Research before making assumptions.

The brain shuts down at death, that in no way implies the soul has not moved on.You should rephrase, millions of scientists believe in God and after life.

I actually had accepted it for quite a while until this happened to me.

Several years ago I had an unusual experience concerning an uncle, a distant relative who lived over a thousand miles away.

While driving my car I suddenly felt the unmistakable presence of this relative that I hardly even knew. He was more like someone I had heard about than someone I knew. It was very strange; it felt as though I was momentarily lifted right out of my physical body. I seemed to be suspended somehow beyond space and time, bathed in a love so intense It felt like I could have just disappear into it at any moment if It would have let me. It only lasted for a few seconds, but it seemed to last forever at the same time. I realize how crazy this must sound. The experience was so strong that at first I was afraid I was loosing my grip on reality. I finally managed to chalk it up to an over active imagination.

Three days later I got a call from my aunt telling me that this uncle we are talking about had gone into a coma and died the day I had the experience. It felt like ice water had been poured down my back when she told me this. I had lost any real ideas of God or faith and had become somewhat of an atheist. Needless to say this experience caused me to rethink some of the conclusions I had come to.

I feel blessed to now understand that even in our darkest confusion something loves us so much that it went out of its way to assist me and bring me back to a state of absolute certainty about Gods love for us.
During the experience it seemed like there was a vast amount of information that I was somehow allowed access to. One thing that I came away from this experience understanding beyond any shadow of a doubt was that any Idea that God is unhappy with us or would judge or allow us to be punished for any reason is simply impossible.

I can’t explain the love I felt with words. They simply don’t make words big enough or complete enough to do this. The only way I can begin to convey this love to you is to say that there was simply nothing else there. Nothing but love. No hint of judgment, no displeasure of any sort. It is as though God sees us as being as perfect as we were the day we were created. It is only in our confused idea of ourselves that we seem to have changed.

I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Love and blessings.

    Your brother don

Science is a journey of discovery that tries to describe the physical world within a set of experimentally verifiable laws. That set of laws is based on our knowledge so far, and changes as we learn more, so there's nothing definite or final about anything in science...be open-minded, you don't have any more proof of your stated beliefs than religious types do of theirs...the difference is that they don't require proof, they feel that faith is enough. So either be exactly like them, and have faith that you're right (the religion of you?), or accept that you just don't know...

Your additional comments are remarkable in their dogma; you demand proof from the religious types, and even from God, yet offer no proof of anything you say...You keep saying that they're wrong, and that's it..sounds pretty zealous...

If you have faith in an atheistic view, then allow the religious types their faith as well; if you have no faith, then accept that agnosticism is the only position left to you...either way, stop bashing others...so far, trying to reach you is like talking to a brick wall...
