Is there a purpose to dreaming?
IMO i belive everything has a purpose and we dream to fufill desires or "keep our selfs saine" as some psychologists say. This is a big topic for me as someone i know thinks that we just dream because our unconcious mind throws random things out as you sleep.

There are several theories as to why we dream, none of which have been proven.
I think the most widely accepted theory is that dreaming isn't important in itself, but is a side-effect of the brain "filing" your memories. This happens during REM time. This is a very important part of sleep, which just happens to cause dreams.
The reason it is important is that without it, you would go completely insane within a couple of weeks, due to the brain being "disorganised", and having a whole load of "useless" information, which would usually be discarded during REM sleep.

You are right. This is a big topic for you to discuss right now. And, yet, please read Sigmund's Freud's books on dreams. That will help.
Try to search the book in the net, get the name, and procure a copy. It is a THICK book, and dont panic with the size of the book.
It is by me now as I am typping this message out.
Best wishes.

it's true tat dream is to fulfil desire, something tat u couldn't in real world.
having a nightmare, usually reflect ur stress. u run because it haunted u.
u can say it's random, but the random thingie 's all reflect the true feeling of u
