If the majority of Americans want something...?
should they get it, whether or not it is constitutional?
We all know this Universal healthcare nonsense is unconstitutional. As with many other programs. Yet the Dems say if the majority of Americans want it then we should vote it in.
What do you say?
Additional Details
Fido you are an absolute idiot!
The constitution is not here to protect the rights of minorities. It is to protect the rights of EVERYONE!
By your logic you should be upset that billionaires and millionaires are targeted for higher taxes. It is their private property that is being taken away and they are a minority here. You flippin idiot.

Not necessarily. We could want things that aren't good for society like the right to shoot anyone who disagrees with our opinions.
If we do away with our representative form of government and hold elections on everything that our representative vote on we'd be so broke none of us could afford to eat. Elections are expensive!

- Your the only one that really *read* the question. I agree with you. I keep hearing libs say that a majority of Americans want universal healthcare and should vote for it. So if a majority wanted something then it should be voted in?Wonder what they would say if the majority wanted rape legalized.

The "majority" do not want it. There are 270 million people with health care versus the 39 point what ever that don't. Now that we know where the majority is, the problem becomes, why doesn't the rest have it? It is available to all. The problem is that an even smaller percentage cannot afford what is available. Most of them do not want to pay for it and have income that would allow it. However cell phones, xbox, and other luxuries are more important to someone who is in there 20s and 30s that do not spend much time in a doctors office. A very small minority don't have it and need it. So they can continue to go to the emergency room. You cannot be turned down for help by ANY hospital in this country. While elections are expensive, anything this hotly contested should go to a referendum.

Then the majority should throw out all the blacks, then the mexicans, then the irish, then the french, then the asians...
The constitution exists to protect the right of the minority. You can be in the minority on many subjects. Want to see what that feel like?

If a majority of Americans wanted it, liberals wouldn't have to bypass the Constitution and could simply amend it. If America wanted it.

Not at the expense of all....
It should be put to a vote in the general election.
I do not believe the majority of Americans want what is on the table now-thay want something, but this isn't it!

Gay marriage.
Should it be forced on states by the Fed or should the states get a vote?
Let the states vote if they want to have all their citizens covered by Medicare. The states that don't want don't have to have it.

Obama and Pelosi want to follow what they want, not what the people want. Obama figures since he was elected that the people will go along with whatever he wants. If they don't they better. Big ego with both of them.

It is not Universal health care, it is insurance that will by paid for by the people who enroll in the program...you know, like Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance.

That I have yet to see any evidence that universal healthcare is even remotely unconstitutional. The "arguments" I've seen here wouldn't pass muster in a sixth grade history class, never mind the Supreme Court.
