Do you think Australia need to find an explosive batsman at the top?

Without someone like Gilly or Shewag, I think our team is having to work extra hard for wins in all the matches. Players like them can give easy wins once in a while and make the job that much easier in high scoring or tight games.

Tim Paine looked like an ideal candidate for filling in Gilly's shoes but we never got to see much of him.

Do you think Paine is the answer or are you satisfied with Watto and Marsh playing sensibly at the top?

You mentioned Sehwag, well sehwag scores quickly but he also fails more often, especially in odis, see this series as an example he is yet to make a 50 in the 6 games he has played, he is explosive but not very consistent, Australian opening pship was better than india in this series.

Watson and Marsh are doing very well, Especially Watson has done very well this year. Marsh has also been impressive, I am sure as Marsh gains experience he will not only become more consistent but his scoring rate will increase.

You rarely get a opening combination like Haydos and Gilly, that's why no need to change 2 players who are scoring runs at the top.

Paine is also good but he is not gonna score as quickly as Gilly did he is also not the 1st choice keeper for Australia, brad Haddin will get back in to the side. Haddin can be used as an opener occasionally.

Clarke will replace Voges and Lee to replace Mckay. Bracken, and siddle will get back in the squad. No need to change anything else.

You're right. We got a settled pair and there's no need to look further at this point in time. I'll also pick Haddin over Paine coz it seems Haddin is a more sensible player.

Whoever seems to be given a chance they capitalize it in the Australian side. First it was Haddin, then Paine and Watson, now Watson and Marsh, they all have been fantastic, Australia's youngsters have the greatest mentality for cricket. I don't know who to chose from all have been excellent in the matches they played.
I would choose Haddin and Watson as both are attacking players, but again I want Marsh and Paine in the side, how can you chose between these consistent performers? A very tough task for the selectors. I pity them.

My views on Paine have lightened quite considerably, and I guess he should be able to open with Marsh. As users above have said, Watson can bat anywhere. The problem is the selection though, there will be too many players to chose from.

Seeing the way things are going, with all of these youngsters coming in and impressing everyone, I wonder if Callum Ferguson is ever going to find his way back into the side after he recovers...

Paine is a wonderful wicketkipper and plays sensibly. he is a good batsman too. but watson seems to be uncomfortable with paine. My choice is Punter-Paine or Watson-Marsh for the top order.

i don't get it why do austrailian cricketers are retaired if they could play at 20 - 20 matches like A..gilchrist, shane warn, Mcgrath. they r the great players in the history of cricket they r not too old to play

Gilchrist was a one-off. I think we're well served. Seems to be something of an obsession around the world to find another these days, f'n hardly.
Watson can bat anywhere in the order, I'd keep Marsh and Paine.

I dont think anyone will be the answer, Gilly is a once in a lifetime player. Watson and Marsh are capable of doing the job nicely.

well in all Honesty, Brad Haddin did a pretty good job...

but im happy with Watto and Marsh up there, they do a good job, and Watson can blast the ball

yes, there is a big graph after Gilchrist and i think they need some one at the top who just take the game to the opposition
