I think it is very deserving of the name. Where else in the world can one do so many extreme sports, normal sports, boating, fishing ,camping ,climbing, white water rafting ,bungy jumping ,caving, tramping sking and much much more in such a small area. It brings in many tourists. Good on the person that came up with this.

"Enjoy the buzz of shooting white water rapids, riding a rocket ship on a wire, and throwing yourself off a bungy platform. You can walk on a glacier, ski on an active volcano, abseil into a canyon and parapent off a high mountain..."

I think new Zealand is the adventure capital of the world (a very biased opinion hehe.) Everything is so accessible- mountains, beaches, lakes, off road tracks.
I live on the beautiful coastline next to the beach but within three hours of commuting I have the choice of sky diving, bungy jumping, tandem diving, white water rafting, mountain biking, zorping, off road 4WD, paragliding, rock climbing, base jumping, surf, ski, snowboarding, wakeboarding…etc.

Personally, since I'm from New Zealand, it seems false. I mean I know we're into water sports, bungee jumping, that boat thing that goes really fast around corners (don't know what it's called), rock climbing and other things, but I don't think we're the adventure capital of the world. I think we're over exaggerating, to be honest. Not that we aren't an adventurous country, I just don't think we're the only adventure capital of the world.

Certainly New Zealand can happily call itself " adventure capital of the world!" There are few countries that can offer such a wide and diverse range of adventure experiences. With our sea, rivers, mountains, bush, thermal and huge wilderness regions we have so many different adventure activities. These are topped up by the entrepreneurial "manmade" activities to make the most of these places - bungy being the biggest with a whole range of different experiences, the jetboat, blackwater rafting, the zorb....all NZ inventions!

Queenstown was recently voted Lonely Planet Top place in the World for Paragliding for 2010, The Otago Peninsula named as a Top Ten Cycle experience 2010 ....these are voted for by the travellers.New Zealand is a Top 10 place to visit for 2010.....all because we offer such amazing adventure experiences. Much of the difference is that we also have magnificent scenery to view when you are paragliding, or kayaking, or jetboating etc

New Zealand has a little bit of many countries .....more New Zealander's should get out to enjoy our beautiful country. Having been to over 75 countries I can personally say there is nowhere with quite the stunning attributes all in one place anywhere.

I think it's a fair call. You would travel here for fun and excitemen, not to tour around museums and churches.
