Is Tiger Woods the best golf player of all time?

He won the Australian Open, after he fumbled a bit on the third day before he teed off on the last day in magnificent style to lead easily(and paying $1.60 on Sportsbet live),so now he has won on four continents. So is he the best golfer of all time? or does he need to win more tournaments first?

If you look at today's golf game, the equipment, and the players one will have to admit that this the toughest golf competition in any era. Anyone of at least 50 players can win a major on his good day. That is to say, only if Tiger Woods if playing badly. That is how much he is dominating golf in an era when the game is at it's highest ever.

Only the sour pusses and those jealous of tall poppies and the blind minded will deny that Tiger Woods is the greatest player yet to have played the game. Not only that, he is also the player having the most impact in the promotion and popularity of the game so far.

Tiger is argue ably the best golfer of all time depends on who you talk to. Talk to someone born after 1980 and they say yes talk to someone born in the 50's or 60's and they may say it was someone else

This past weekend, my Relay team had a garage sale of donated items from individuals. One of the items donated was a set of golf clubs in a Arnold Palmer bag with Jack Nicklaus clubs. The woods were made from real wood, the irons were small compared to those made today.

I have to wonder how players today, even Tiger, would fare if they used clubs without all the technology built into them today.

Chinese have animals for years, 12 animals. There are 5 kinds for each animal. The year you are born in will come around again when you are 60 years old. Tiger Woods was born 1 year after the "Wood Tiger".

He has a higher winning percentage than anyone. Nicklaus still has more Majors and overall wins, but Tiger is the best ever IMHO.

yes he is the best golfer ever. I doesn't matter what the technology is because every era had its best technology and this era is the best ever so Tiger is the best because he beats other golfers with the same technology (even the same clubs) as him because his metal toughness and his ability to come from behind. in my opinion he is the best golfer ever and not one else can do what he can do. I know a lot of people said that Jack's record couldn't be broken but no one will be as good as Tiger as long as golf is around.

maybe by the time he has finished his career he will be

there are still two golfers with more pga tour wins, tiger has 71. granted he will probably pass jack nicklaus (73 wins) next year. and may catch sam snead (82 wins) in the next few years

there is still one golfer with more pga tour major wins, tiger has 14. granted he has ample time left in his career to pass jack nicklaus (18 major wins) - but it will probably take tiger more overall pga wins to reach jack's total

an argument could be made for bobby jones. as an amateur he won the grand slam capturing four major golf tournaments in one year. he won the british amateur, british open, us amateur, and us open in one year. this was the first time "grand slam" was used referring to winning four major tournaments in one year

the modern grand slam has replace the two amateur tournaments with the masters and the pga championship. only five golfers has won all four - gene sarazen, ben hogan, gary player, jack nicklaus, and tiger. both jack and tiger have three career grand slams, having won each major at least three times

only bobby jones and tiger have been the reigning champion of all four grand slam events at the same time. only bobby jones has won them all in one year. tigers four wins have been called a tiger slam because all four were not in the same year

there is one more, in my opinion, eligible for the title of greatest golfer of all time - byron nelson. byron set two records that may never be broke. byron won 18 tournaments in one year. and even more amazing, he won 11 tournaments in a row

i believe is currently the best golf player of all time, he has the most talent, and has a cunning ability to have huge blow outs or make a huge come back. and i believe # of majors and masters won really defines a person's career and sooner or later he will be the leader in both those categories

the way people bash tiger on this site just confirms he will soon be. the haters are out of excuses. if palmer, nicklaus, trevino, watson say he is. that is the highest praise from your peers. as far as a athlete/humanitarian ,no person will ever match the champ ali. tiger is following in his footsteps. he will win the missing majors. he is playing on a knee that right now may be at 75%. he came back at 60% and won. very very few athletes ever would have played the U S OPEN on that knee. to win it shows his will to win. at the very best his knee will be at 85%.many athletes would have been forced into retirement. he should just be returning to the tour. not only will he go down as the greatest ever . this different era stuff does not work. the tour is loaded with golfers who would have dominated in any era. if their was a time machine nobody could question this. his contribution through his charities is right behind ali. his courage cannot be questioned. returning from the surgery as soon as he did will affect his quality of life. the knee will be replaced prior to the age of 40. the greatest golfer ever very soon. no argument. one of the greatest athletes ever of all time yes. greatest athlete/ humanitarian. i think the champ just may give him the title. the amount of bashing petty jealousy. he is there no question.

NO not yet maybe in the future.
best player sam sneed. winning pro events well into his sixties. shot a 62 in a pro event at 65,
holes in one with every club apart from the putter. using old time equipment.
tiger last that long no way.
i think tiger is a great player. but he is now a business rather than a great sportsman sign of our money oriented times.
