Tips on how to not spin in pole vaulting?
I've recently started pole vaulting, and have started to do jumps from 5 steps back (5 left foot steps, not both feet). However, I keep on spinning to the right and don't know how to stop. I know it has something to do with the way I plant the pole, but could someone give me some pointers on how to not spin?

You must be planting the pole to the side rather than directly in line so that your top hand is over your head.
If you sit back with your arms extended, the pole centered on your body, not off to one side you should not spin or twist.
At a 5 step approach you are not generating a lot of speed, which is good while beginning to learn so concentrate on staying centered, and smooth.
Don't jump up, drive off your plant foot and sit back.

Yes, with the way just plant with the pole. It's always been that way and it always as likely as not will remain be that way, too
