Recomendation Letter?

So I need to ask someone for a letter of rec. I know they will say yes but what am I supposed to give them? I heard one person say that I am supposed to give them my resume, transcript, and a bunch of other stuff if it will be useful because they may not know about my extra- curricular activities stuff. But they also said that I am supposed to give them envelopes addressed to the right place and stamped so they can just stick the letter in and send it off. Is this true, or do I just let them handle it themselves?

Give them your resume, transcript, a letter of extracurricular activities or volunteer hours or info not listed in your resume and transcript. Also give them the amount of envelopes that you need for each college (put the address of the colleges on each and your name and address) and give the same amount of stamps and some extra. Make sure you print out the paperwork for each college that deals with reccommendation letters becaues sometimes there are forms teachers have to fill out. And the rest, your teachers can take care of.
