Who were you in teh Backyard?

As a kid, who were you always trying to be in the backyard/street/park playing cricket?
Batting and bowling.

I was Warnie when i was bowling lol and i was Mark Waugh when i was batting. Good times lol, is this what u meant? Who were u cricket nerd?

At the start I enjoyed batting. But later I was attracted to bowling since i can vary many things and there are lot of variations to try and still continue to enjoy my bowling

I tried to imitate many cricketers for their trademark style of playing,,.........especially bowlers like mitachell johnson, pravin kumar, brett lee, anil kumble harbhajan singh murali etc.


i enjoyed batiing in the beginning , as i was deprived of it.... some of the older mates always made me field.. but after some tears i gave them a taste of their own medicine.... matching them, in fact bettering them , in batting and bowling skills.

I was a player that just live every moment of the game we play. I was there trying my every effort to be the member of winning team. Even the match isn't even county level or even a city level..I am there doing Fielding and trying to catch and run out opposite team. I am there to bowl spin and fast bowling to try to bowled opposite team. I am there to strike the opposite team and hit every ball six at least try to hit it hard that it reach boundary line....Well you get the idea that i was a all round in every meaning ever angle every second i was in the game.I was there because of the intensity of pressure on your shoulder even its not international level or anything close.It still an enjoyable and great question lots off memories comes to mind when thinking about this friends faces are the most that come to my mind...

I loved to bowl in the backie, but later developed my interest in improving my strokes..so I was trying to be Brett Lee and bat like Sachin Tendulkar..:D

I was always hansie cronje in the backyard for batting and bowling, before he was exposed as a cheat. And jonty rhodes when was fielding.

Unsuprisingly Michael Vaughan but also Alec Stewart too.

Vaughan was someone who I tried to model my technique on, so I used to try and bat like him. I used to always tend to commentate when my brother was coming in to bowl and say "McGrath to Vaughan" and If I got out with Vaughan then I would be Alec Stewart wandering to the crease... Aaah I miss those days, 1 day I would be playing cricket in the Park playing an Ashes series, and the next playing football or tennis pretending it was Man Utd vs Arsenal or playing at Wimbledon.

When I bowled I used to pretend I was Darren Gough, because he was a huge character in English cricket and a very good bowler.

Lol of course it didn't stop there. When I used to play club cricket I basically copied Kevin Pietersen. I had a blonde streak down my hair like his (in 05) and I had the sleeves rolled up and every time I batted I tended to charge at the bowler which didn't please too many of them

Bowling I would alternate between Mike Whitney, Merv Hughes and Bruce Reid each with their own distinct run up
