Doubles Tennis Serving Offical Rules?

Question

Lets say you are serving and playing doubles. Are you allowed to serve on the doubles baseline?
like the baseline but the doubles bit are you allowed to serve there. i made a bet with my p.e teacher and i was saying you are allowed to but he said not so and if im correct i get to not do my exam and get an A+ so please be ohnest

The Rules of Tennis state:

"Immediately before starting the service motion, the server shall stand at rest with
both feet behind (i.e. further from the net than) the baseline and within the imaginary
extensions of the centre mark and the sideline."

Given that the sideline in doubles is the outside edge of the alley, then it would seem that you are correct.

This is one that I know for sure. In singles you must stand within the singles sidelines when serving, and in doubles you must stand within the doubles sidelines, so you are correct. This is sometimes a good idea if you want to serve wide, but you can also fool your opponent by serving close to the center line sometimes. You can do a search for Rules of Tennis on Yahoo Search and find the rules on serving.
