Is Rugby League becoming desperate?

With this double try which i think is just plain stupid and just another way NRL is trying to become like NFL. Anyway, i take my hats off to the administration in trying to liven up the game locally since the international scene is not working at all.

Look, i know there is a lot of confusion over this, but what people aren't comprehending is this is a ONE OFF, and that's it, it's not a trial to see if it will work this year, next year or even 5 years from now, it's just one of many things like video refs talking and explaining decisions to viewers and coaches and players wearing microphones at certain times and sharing their thoughts for the sole purpose of making this one very special and unique gama as exciting as possible, it's not a desperate bid to freshen our game or anything, it's just a one off and personally i can't wait and i love it

The double try rule is stupid but the international scene has no problem at all.

You have no idea do you. Gallop has said he has no intentions of even beginning to think about putting this double try idea into the NRL, it's just a one off thing for a one off game to make it more exciting and add even more uniqueness to the whole All-Star concept so I don't understand why you think the NRL is becoming like NFL when it isn't even getting introduced into an NRL match. Rugby League is nothing like American football, the game isn't going in that direction at all.

And it proves even more you are clueless about everything because international rugby league is once again rising. Within the last two years, we have seen it boom. It is now unexpected with the evenness of teams and the recent major upsets. The Four Nations was a success for all countries, each team making an impact which they will use to better themselves for the future and the Pacific Cup was also a boost for international rugby league giving all nations an opportunity to play in the main event next year and it was a pretty even competition. So all this indicates to me that the international scene is just getting started, and most definitely IS working and will keep getting better if things stay on track.

They are only trialling the double try, IF it ever made it to the NRL it would take at least 10 years before it would become a written rule, if it ever does.

International Rugby League is booming. It's just gonna take time till their standards are high enough to be seriously competitive against Australia.

We are not going to become NFL. Our men have balls for starters and are never going to wear padding and helmets.

It's an exhibition game FFS. It's not like they're introducing the rule into the NRL.

There's no need to try to liven up the game locally .. how come you don't know that crowds were up last season, and the Finals Series did everyone proud.

NFL players could never match Rugby League players for skill, toughness, or genius (on occasion).
Or .. let's face it .. for time on the paddock. How many of our players come off/on the field just for attack or defence, or to kick a goal?

The double-try initiative is only a trial, and there are one or two other things being given a go .. such as the video ref wearing a microphone to explain his try/no try decisions. We'll all just have to wait and see how it plays out .. and who can find the best ways to take advantage of keeping the ball.

The whole double try concept is only being used in the All Stars game, not the NRL. So no, the NRL isn't becoming desperate or anything like the NRL, it'll be a long time before you see our players covered head to toe in padding.

Also, the international scene is working really well actually. Things like expanding a game don't happen overnight so you can't expect every single country to play the game like the Australians do just yet. Rugby League is doing great internationally and will continue to do so.

I was listening to graham annessley on radio yesterday and he said it was just a one off for that game. I personally would like to see how it goes first before I make my judgement on it. I wasnt a fan of golden point when they first said they were bringing it in but now I like it. imo goal kicking is overrated anyway

I would say NO to that. The way other codes poach our players I would even be inclined to say its the other way around.

And yeah - our boys dont need cotton wool to play. 100% Pure Beef

I see you want it both ways.
That's the beauty of games like the 'Allstars' match. We can have a look at it and see how absolutely stuffed the 16 man team gets in the summer, lol.
They'll want to add 4 more players to the bench I reckon if they want the rule to continue.

I don't agree with the double try thing. After giving the first try it should just be the conversion.. having another go will probably wear the players down and not having the energy to go on... am definitely sure the video referees cannot handle the intensity. And there will be fair bit of confusion...
