  • What is the point of the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring?

I think it is over-rated. I watched it today, I am very disappointed. It is a 3 hour long movie and all they do is travel, they didn't even achieved their goal to destroy the ring. Whilst watching the movie, I kept looking and waiting for the climax that never happened.

I was looking at a study of police officer on-the-job death statistics which compared the US and various countries in Europe. It's really shocking how many more cops are MURDERED in the US compared to Europe. For example, the UK has had zero officers murdered so far in 2009, and had one murdered last year (an officer in Northern Ireland). The US has had THIRTY officers murdered so far this year (I'm only counting homicides, not traffic wrecks or anything like that), and had 59 officers murdered in 2008 (which was actually very low by historical standards). None of the western European countries have these sorts of numbers. Even Italy, which has a big mafia presence, only had two officers murdered in 2008. "Population" isn't an explanation, since you can add up the populations of countries like the UK, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, and get a bigger population than the US, but still way, way fewer officer murders. Why is this? My theory is that cops in the US end up making people angrier for some reason, and angry people take out their anger on the police. For instance, Texas has had the most officers murdered of any state so far in 2009. Texan officers have a reputation for being really mean. So, it makes sense that Texans would get angry and shoot back. Cops in countries like Germany tend to be a lot friendlier and more relaxed, which means people are a lot less-inclined to shoot at them. Does anyone have any other theories to explain the differences?
