  • How can I get people to understand that I don't hate THEIR baby?

.. I just don't like babies in general. I try to joke that they are loud, smell bad and break easily but it's the basic truth. I don't want to hold them, change them or put up with their tantrums. Didn't have kids on purpose, did diaper duty helping raise the nieces & nephews, done. • Are we really supposed to keep tipping the newspaper delivery guy?

Decades ago it was proper to tip the postal carrier, the trash collector and the newspaper delivery guy. The others have accepted that these days are over but the news guy keeps slipping self addressed stamped envelopes in my Sunday paper. This usually is at Xmas but I still find one every few weeks (I don't always open the Sunday paper and... show more

The others have accepted that these days are over but the news guy keeps slipping self addressed stamped envelopes in my Sunday paper. This usually is at Xmas but I still find one every few weeks (I don't always open the Sunday paper and find them later while recycling). Getting daily delivery has become quite expensive, over $800/year. Last Xmas we sent a $25 Dunkin Donuts gift card. Too cheap or is he expecting too much?

  • Serious Question for (some) Dog Breeders - Do you think you're gonna create the next 'New" dog?

Back in the 60's, my family showed dogs, mainly Great Pyrenees Dogs and for a while my uncle had Dobermans. It was just an expensive hobby for us but the professionals spent tons of cash on every aspect of it (kennels, food, transportation to shows, grooming, vets, etc.). I grew up watching responsible breeders take excellent care of their animals and only pass the line down from healthy, champion stock. There were also the ones you could tell just didn't care about their animals, it was only a business. To all you naïve, potential back-yard-breeder Frankensteins; Do you really imagine you are going to come up with a new breed by cross breeding dogs? Are you hoping they name it after you? Is there a niche that only a different kind of dog that doesn't exist yet can fill? Yes, this is how we got dog breeds up til now. Do you realize how many generations of dogs have to suffer through your selfish experiments? Just. Stop. Already. These are different from the greedy back-yard-breeders who crank out lapdogs cuz they're cute. Or the ones who try to cash in on the new version of 101 Dalmatians because 'everyone is gonna want one' but all they do is perpetuate the gene that makes them deaf, plus they are highly neurotic in the first place. /rant

  • Goldfish Breeding?

My sister has a tank she started with 6 small feeder goldfish. She had them in a small pond on her back deck but brought them inside after a raccoon destroyed the pond. Four small fish in a 10 gallon tank, statistically the chances of there being at least one male and one female is high. Why haven't they created baby fish?

  • Have you ever known someone to fake or exaggerate a disease for sympathy?

I got the nickname 'Doc' from the years I worked in a doctor's office and I have more-than-average medical knowledge. It makes me furious when I find out someone is pretending to have a disease or over-exaggerates something simple they have just to make others wait on them or treat them special. I recently confronted a woman I've known for years who keeps telling me about how sick she and/or her husband are with; heart conditions, skin cancer, liver disease, etc... It can't just be stomach flu, it's gotta be colon cancer. Weeks later, when their diagnosis should be confirmed by real medical professionals, it's usually waved off as, "the doctors don't know what they're talking about." Some people I know who do this are trying to get disability money. Most of them are just out for the sympathy. I find this especially insulting to people who have been actually suffering with and fighting real diseases for years.

  • Whopper Dog?

Have you tried it? Did you like it? I generally hate hot dogs and if I do eat them I like them cooked crispy on the grill. We tried the BK Whopper Dog and a chili cheese dog the other day. Skipped the classic because I hate mustard and relish. Not bad, except the chili was way salty and they put them upright in the bag so when we got them home everything slid down to one end. Probably would've been better if chili was a menu item at BK but I like the Whopper toppings on the grilled dog.

  • Would it be possible to 'paint' the moon with laser pointers?

If we got a bunch of people across the world at a certain day and time to aim a laser pointer at the moon, could we get it to change color? I know a lot of it would depend on weather, daylight savings time adjustments and a lot of other factors. But if thousands got in on this, would it work?

His dream was; worrying about news reports of a meteor coming to hit somewhere in the US. People were freaking out trying to figure out where it would hit and evacuate. He could see the fireball in the sky from the roof of his house. My dream; I see a giant fireball streaking through the sky and hit about ten miles southeast of my house with fiery debris exploding into the sky. The scariest part? Sometimes things I dream come true.
