However, I’ve noticed that since I brought them home one of they move I’d always shaking her tail. After doing research I learned it could be out of annoyance or aggression towards another mouse. I didn’t do any introduction with each other because they were already living together. What should I do? They are temporarily in a 10 gallon tank, could the problem be territory issues? I’m a new mice owner so I’m not sure what I should do about this situation.

Neither sex is more affectionate. That depends on the individual guinea pig. In general though they are not super affectionate towards people. They are prey animals and can be nervous especially when you try to pick them up.

Cost greatly varies. I spent about $3 a month on hay. I got 50 pound bales from a farmer for $4-8. If you get hay from a pet store be prepared to spend MUCH more than that. Feed stores generally have hay at a median price.
Bedding was about $12 a month. I used hardwood stove pellets. I put a big pile of hay on one side of the cage for them to sleep in too. Actual bedding like carefresh or aspen will be more expensive.
Pellets were super cheap since they only need 1/8 cup a day. Pigs under 6 months will need unlimited pellets though.
Veggies is what I spent the most on. Its been a while and I don't remember how much they cost. They need about a cup of veggies a day. Lots of leafy greens like red/green leaf lettuce, butter lettuce, cilantro, basil etc. Bell pepper daily for vitamin c. Then throw in other veggies like cucumber, tomatoes etc. Here is a veggie chart

One other important thing I want to mention is cage size. The generally accepted minimum is 8 square feet for a pair of females and 10 for a pair of males but I would go larger. They really do enjoy having a big cage. Go as big as you can. C&C cages are a cheap way to get a nice sized cage.

But then i noticed that the smaller mouse Chibi started chasing Chizu around or she'll try to steal her treats. I figured it was a dominance thing because she always tried mounting her. So I added more to their cage today to give them more space but Chibi wont even let Chizu enjoy the new spaces. I don't get it? I bought them from the same store, they arrived at the store in a litter of 6 so I'm assuming they're sisters. If its just a dominance thing, how long will this last? No blood has been drawn so articles say they're fine. But I feel bad for poor Chizu she just squeaks not really even trying to fight back.

  • Is it OK to have a herd of two boars and two sows guinea pigs?

I have had two boars for about a year now. They get along great with plenty space. I am considering getting them neutered and adding two more female piggies. Will my boars fight each other over the two girls? Is this a safe thing to do? Thanks!

  • There's a mouse under my bed what should I do?

Best answer: Time to grow up and be responsible for your actions. Know that if you leave food you haven’t eaten and dirty plate with crumbs, your going to attract bugs and animals. BUT, this could be the last time you ever have to clean under your bed because your never going to shove crap under there again. Right? Good luck.

  • Why do mice smell stronger & worse than rats do?

Best answer: Mice, especially male mice, scent mark their living space with urine. Remove all of it and they go into production making a lot more. So leave a little bit in the cage with them.

I don't need the "you shouldnt have a pet you cant afford speech" I wasnt expecting my husband to lose his job. Unfortunately my piggies are sick with an uri. Yes i know this for fact I'm very knowledgeable in this stuff. I know that doxycycline is what a vet would prescribe if we went. And I know the amount of mg for my piggies weight. If I get fish doxy which is pure doxycycline for fish and mix it with water and suck it up in a syringe and shoot in in my pigs mouthes should that be effective in curing them. Doxycycline is doxycycline does it matter if its doxy for a fish or a bird or a guinea? Then watch out for side effects and weigh them to make sure they are eating properly amd arent lethargic. I need a home way of doing this. I love my piggies so much and I feel so bad for letting them get a uri. I will be a better mother to them when we get through this. I will clean the I pen everyday.

I had been looking up how to properly keep him and care for him so I was prepared. I then got another about a day after because I heard they did not like to be lonely. They got along great! Today I woke up and Linus was dead in his cage, my other guinea lowell is Ok for now but I don’t want to discuss this. I feel like this is my fault. I played with both of them all day (since I’m homeschooled), fed them the right healthy food, changed their bedding and spot cleaned often. (Spot cleaned three times per day and changed and washed their cage once per week). He was a perfectly happy guinea pig. I don’t know how he died, was this my fault that he’s dead? I don’t have any siblings so I don’t have anyone who could have killed him
