Dear all, a few months ago, I (16-year old guy) moved in with my dad and his second wife after my mum went to live abroad. I'm grateful my dad took me in, even though my stepmother was very reluctant to allow this since she despises me. I have a girl friend and lots of friends and everybody thinks I'm a cool and happy guy, but I'm often melancholic, because I just can't get over the fact no one in my family cares about me. I've lost touch with my mum, she doesn't reply to my messages and I don't know why because I haven't really done anything to her. My dad is never there (always on the road) and when he is, he doesn't really talk to me, only when he is angry (usually when his wife has complained about me). Ever since I moved in, he has never spoken one kind word to me. His wife doesn't talk to me at all, I'm only good enough to babysit her younger children. When everyone does something together, e.g. have a barbecue in the garden, noone asks me to join and I don't ask to join in because I know I'm not welcome. I try to spend as much time as I can outside the house because I don't want to bother anyone. I spent a lot of time at my girl-friend's. She has a really nice family. But I don't always want to bother them either. I don't think I can ask them to care about me when they don't, but I just would like to know if you think I expect too much or should I just be grateful that I have a roof over my head? Thanks guys:D

Now, most kids are brats and troublemakers. They run wild in stores and restaurants. They don't listen to their parents. And they are always getting into trouble.

So take a different route. Find a job you walk to or can take the bus to. Fill out applications and talk to managers in person. Tell them you need a start date and schedule and are eager to work. Not a phone call, maybe, if they need you. An immediate job. It took me 20 applications and 5 days of walking the sidewalks for me to land my first job with those requirements but... that was less than a week and I had a job! Mom wasn't involved at all. You can do that. I don't know a lot about whatever your depression is but I think it's possible that making little steps, independently, towards your independence will not only help you feel better but it will give you the Independence you desire. Relying on HER to establish your independence is highly unlikely to achieve either goal.

Every time I get around my fiancé's father and his girlfriend, they somehow bring up the topic of me having kids with my fiancé. Im in my early 20's and so is my fiancé. Im a sophomore in college and he is in training for the Army. Im a work study student and I don't have a car yet but I do have my license. I want to become a Labor and Delivery nurse, so I am pursuing that path. I am clearly no where near ready for a baby, but his father constantly brings it up. My fiancé already has a little daughter and he is a great father, but his previous relationship didn't work out too well. I do have dreams of having at least one child with my man, but definitely not now. He wants a child with me too, but not now. We both want to get ourselves together first before we become fruitful and multiply lol. But every time his father brings up kids with my fiancé I get uncomfortable and I either don't say much, or I desperately try to change the subject. Im pretty sure young girls love discussing their dreams to be a mother, but I get uncomfortable and embarrassed when there is talk about me being a mother, even though I do want kids someday. I know that if I marry my man, I will be a stepmother, which I have absolutely no problem with. I don't know, am I just a weird one?

I get the feeling my wife wants to leave. She's always cranky and angry all the time, she's constantly "tired", her patience level with the kids has declined tremendously. She usually does something for my birthday and does a craft with the kids for Father's day. This year, she did nothing for either, except help our 4 year old daughter make a flan, which when I commented on it, she got all pissy again. I commented to my mom that she didn't do anything this year, but that doesn't explain why she got pissy afterwards. One of her colleagues approached me (I have a remodel job in an apt in the condo she works) and told me that he overheard her talking with a female colleague about the weekend and the subject of Father's day came up. Apparently, this female colleague asked her why she was POed or something. I've been noticing though that doesn't say bye to me in the morning anymore, only kisses the kids goodbye and greets them when she comes home. Whenever we talk, she says I don't listen and doesn't want to waste her time talking to wall. How can I know if she's thinking of leaving without actually asking her? I don't think she'll tell me the truth anyway.

Is it at all possible for only YOU to go without your spouse so you can save on expenses? I know its not ideal, but that would be the best option.

  • My sister won't come to my family party as she is cold to family values. Am I rightfully mad at her for this or should I let it go?

Best answer: She's the one missing out on family, not you. She is the one with the problem, not you. You invited her, she declined. End of story. You have to find your own peace. You could still keep inviting her to family things so she can't ever say she feels "left out"...

That's assuming the aunt is not your great-aunt. (I'm wondering because of the age gap between you and her.) If she is, the daughter is your mother or father's first cousin (depending on which of your grandparents is the great-aunt's sibling), and the daughter's son is your mother or father's first cousin once removed. That would make the son YOUR second cousin.
