• Getting medical bills that went to collections off credit report?

Around 2 years ago I went to the emergency room for a really intense cough I had. A few months later I went again for I can't even remember what. I have insurance, but I still ended up owing almost $900 for the first visit, and about $120 for the second. I paid the $120 fairly quickly, but the $900 went to... show more
Around 2 years ago I went to the emergency room for a really intense cough I had. A few months later I went again for I can't even remember what. I have insurance, but I still ended up owing almost $900 for the first visit, and about $120 for the second. I paid the $120 fairly quickly, but the $900 went to collections. I haven't been in a good financial state, so I haven't been able to pay it. I received a letter last December saying they'd settle for $600 if I paid in full within a few weeks, unfortunately I wasn't able to pay that either. I recently made a payment plan with them to pay the debt, I was just wondering what steps I could take to get it off my credit report. So far it's brought it down almost 100 points, I really want to get that back up to where I had it.

  • I have 9k in credit card debt. What is the best way to pay this off, efficiently?

Best answer: Stop using the card.

Pay as much as you can every month.

If it is multiple cards, pick the card with the highest interest rate and pay extra to that card.

As for "manageable", we have no idea what your income is or your other debts so we have no idea if it is "manageable" or not.

  • Numerica overdraft fees?

When I created my account I was told I had an overdraft protection of 75 dollars, and it would then be declined. I was warned that using that 75 could result in a fee. I do not check my account regularly, only open the bank app and check the balance - I was unaware that my balance being in parenthesis meant that it was overdrawn. I somehow got up to an overdrawn amount of almost 700 dollars because my small purchases accumulated $30 for each transaction. I found my paperwork from when I signed up and I did opt into "courtesy pay," - but nowhere could I find anything that stated a limit on the amount. I was told 75. When I called about this they told me that after one month itgoes up to 700. Nothing to show either of those things in paperwork. I would not have continued to make small purchases if I had known about this. I was expecting my card to be declined once I hit 75 dollars, but I was depositing my checks not realizing that most of that was being taken out for overdraft fees. They charged me almost 1000 dollars just in fees within a two week period. I should have been more careful and checked my account, however, with there not being anything showing a limit of 75, or a limit of 700, am I within my rights to ask that they dismiss all charges after the first 75 dollars was accrued? Particularly since they admit that it began as 75, but supposedly increased to 700 after a month and there is no indication of that in the paperwork.

Best answer: Any score before the first six months of you using credit is pretty much invalid. Prior to that, your history is not long enough to give a score. Having said that, which score do you want - you have 36 different scores. There are 4 companies that calculate scores (the three credit bureaus and Fair Isaac). Each of the 4 entities calculate 8 - 10 different scores depending upon what you are buying (you have a consumer score, you have an auto loan score, you have a mortgage score, and so on). You can get a rough estimate from Credit karma (it's usually within 50 points either way for your consumer score). You are better off just making sure your credit report stays clean and then your score(s) will take care of themselves. Make your payments on time, limit your credit card balances to less than 30% of your limit, etc. Check your credit report annually to make sure their are no mistakes on it (if there are, you file a dispute to fix the error).

How does this work? I have $50 in my bank acc now after the deduction from the gym membership but now I see I owe $112 on my credit card? How does this work? Do I just pay it off on my credit? I thought they would just decline to pay if I had no money in my account. Any advice appreciated thanks
