OK, I have flashed BIOSes in the past, but that was in the days of floppy disks!!! Thanks!

I have a Dell Inspiron 11 laptop that I bought less than a year ago. It has 28GB so I were unable to keep any personal files (pics, vids) on the computer. While this is not a issue, the biggest one is I hardly have any space left on the system. I deleted a few preinstalled apps, anything I installed, which isn't a lot, followed youtube tutorials to free up space (going to the temp folder, etc) but it was not enough to reset my computer all over again. I used disk checkup over and over again to delete temporary files, which did not help. My last resort was deleting some of the important files needed to run my computer properly but I did save it on a external hard drive but cannot get most of it back on my original drive due to little space left. I'm at my wits end and it's been months of this issue because I cannot update Windows 10 nor set it to factory setting. Can someone please help me effectively delete files I do not need so I can reset my laptop again? I do not want to replace it just want a clog free laptop again.

    - Lookup one of the games you intend to play and check out its "Minimum" and "Recommended" requirements! Write those down and look for laptops with those specs and see what price range they fall into. However, I think you've greatly misjudged the laptop market at a price range of $300.00.

The HARD WAY to answer your own question:
    - Pick a price, then try to fit a system into that price!

    Good luck out there!

The thing is, they aren't very useful for a lot more than that. You've got to jump through hoops to run any other programs on them and they usually don't have the hard drive space to store much more than the programs they came with.

As for the Windows laptop, it'll probably be slower than the Chromebook, but you'll be able to install Windows programs and such.

The way to get a laptop to last a long time is first, don't install the junk and malware that old laptops are always buried with. Second, get it an SSD. A fast SSD drive is a great way to make an old laptop usable for much longer because it won't take as long to load programs you need.

  • Best laptop for computer science major?

Best answer: If you would get an 8th generation CPU (i5 or i7) with 16gig of RAM, you would have a computer that would get you through 4 yrs of school.

Of the choices, I would prefer the XPS13. I am now using a 4th generation Toshiba i7 with 16 gig RAM that is approx 5 yrs old. It was a very good system when I bought it. I'm happy with the performance today. No program in MS Office is going to tax this system. That's most of what you will be doing.

Now, your budget will determine how good a system you can get. Remember, you are buying a system that you hope will last all 4 years.

EDIT: Screen size- my present laptop is a 17". I would never get this size again. It's too big and I was very limited in the bags that I could get for this size screen. I would probably get a 15" today although many people are opting for 13". My only concern is the smaller the PC, the more apt it is to be thrown around or mistreated or stolen.

EDIT2: I have gone through a few batteries and a couple of chargers in 5 years. It was the connector on the end of the charger that failed. It wouldn’t stay connected. These can be considered wear and tear items. You don’t have to get 16 gig of ram now. It can always be added later on the XPS.

I was eyeing the Acer gaming laptop with 1tb hd and don't recall the other specs but that was $619 with other fees included of course. I use my laptop for school, movie watching, photos maybe Facebook games. I just bought it so haven't played with it much but can't say I love it yet. Sales guy at best store was nice but of course trying to make a sale. Sorry for the long question. I'm just not feeling confident with my purchase.

Best answer: It is hard to say what they did. Most of the time they don't do anything but too often they do, It sounds like they did this time. For clarification I would need to know what you mean by "wont turn on". If it literally will not power on, you press the power button and nothing happens, you get no signs that it even getting power. Then you have a hardware problem that isn't likely related. If it powers on but then shuts off or just gives you a blank black screen. Then they might have corrupted the bios which is not repairable. If it powers on and just asks for a password, they may have just set I bios password and the CMOS needs to be cleared. If you see the normal manufacture splash screen but a blank screen later or some error message, then they may have corrupted the operating system and it simply needs to be reinstalled.
So we would need to know more specific info about what exactly happens when you turn it on to give advice on the problem.
