Best answer: Here are some tips about finding a voice teacher:

The teacher has an excellent ear, and carefully listens to, and gives you accurate feedback about your voice.

Has an understanding of vocal anatomy, including the respiratory muscles, the larynx and throat structures, and how they affect singing.

Allows you to tape record lessons or exercises in the lesson for take-home practice. Provides you with written exercises when needed.

Is professional in conduct yet personable. You should feel comfortable with this person. You should feel free to ask questions.

While being emotionally supportive, he or she should be able to challenge you to grow as a singer at the same time.

The teacher should be able to explain to you in depth why you are doing each exercise that he or she gives you.

If available go to a recital where this teacher's students are performing. If they mostly sound great then this is probably a very good indication of a competent voice teacher.

Avoid teachers who only take on students who are already professional vocalists. A good teacher can train any voice and would enjoy the challenge of doing so.

The teacher shows genuine interest in you as a singer.

The teacher understands vocal health issues including the need to drink water and monitor the speaking voice

Addresses the need to relax those tensions/muscles that can block good vocal production and vocal freedom.

Is emotionally stable and does not intimidate or talk down to you.

Your voice feels easier and more resonant when working together

  • Someone told me I look like I can sing pretty well?

So today I met my new Taekwando coach and during the ice breaking and self introduction session, after asking for my name, he turned to other and asked:"is she a singer?" Mind you that I only told the coach my name, and nothing else. What does this mean?

At the beginning of September my singing voice got weak and I wasn’t able to hit normal high notes. Since then my voice has had ups and downs it depends on the day ( changes are only in my singing voice not normal talking voice). Is it possible I’m going through a second stage of a voice change or is it something bigger than that?

Or maybe it s hard to be Alto in general idk. It can be boring at times.l bc i dont talk to many people. and I loose a study hall for homework. Songs suck. Pros are I really enjoy singing, so I can get better. Practice clapping rythms in class. So pretty much I m doing this to be a better singer and join a better chior when I can in the future.

  • Is It Acceptable for Choir Directors to Sing Along with the Choir?

Obviously in a concert it's not desirable for a director to sing, but even good quality choirs will often have the director sing one part to lead voices in (usually just early) rehearsals. That said very high quality choirs will not do this.

If it's a choir with a part missing due to a lack of numbers, or if it's a community choir or some such and they may need a strong voice to follow even in a concert then the expectation is different. The main priority is showing the choir in a good light, if you need the director to sing in order to give people confidence then that's what should happen - although ideally you wouldn't need to.

Also the 1960s were a long time ago - a lot has changed since then!
