Let's say a teacher makes a parent angry and that parent yells at the teacher, but doesn't make any threats or assault the teacher in any way. What if the parent cursed at the teacher or even insulted him/her? Would the parent get in trouble for this?

I wouldn’t really worry about this but I already got suspended for a few days this year for cheating on a biology test. I wasn’t cheating, do you think she will even say anything to me? Any help appreciated!

I am entering the workforce as a teacher. I'm wanting to know if the outfit in the picture is practical to wear as a teacher.?

Best answer: Your shoes aren't very practical as much of a teacher's day is spent standing. As for the blouse it would be more prudent if there is less cleavage especially if you are teaching preteens and teens. The skirt is fine as is the purse and necklace. You didn't ask but here is some extra advice. Unless you have a mega bank account wear clothes that are washable and not exclusively dry cleanable. You'll be surprised at just how dirty clothes can get after a day of teaching. Another thing have plenty of hand cream in your desk drawer as chalk is extremely drying on the skin. If you will be using whiteboard the markers do stain the hands and some of the ink does end up on the clothes.
There is no standard "professional" dress for teachers but it is better if you don't dress like your students. One more thing have lots of mix and match in your wardrobe. So, looking at the photo do you have other blouses, jackets that will co-ordinate with skirt?

I picked English etymology, at first the teachers were skeptical about it and tried to talk me out of it. But I didn't listen and apparently they now love it. When I was in a meeting with all of the teachers and other students who have in-depth studying (on other topics), I had found out that I was only supposed to make simple presentations, but instead I turned it into a scientific research. After another meeting, my English teacher told me that she would really love to send me to a University in our capital, there I would present my work to professors and other university students. I am lost, there are so many ways it could go wrong, probably it's just my paranoia, but how do these things work, how do you prepare for them? I know my teachers will explain everything, at least I really hope so. But it will happen in a few months and I don't even think that I have enough material to present, again paranoia...

I got a B on my math test, and the teacher gave everyone a chance to raise their grade. I figured I'd try to get an A since she said that if we got a lower grade she would just leave our first grade. About 7 of us did it. The teacher sat us all in one row. I had to sit with this guy that always has really bad grades. All the tests were the same. The guy I was sitting with copied some of my answers, but he didn't copy the procedure or the explanation, he just wrote the numbers. I didn't realize he was copying me since I was really focusing on my test. But he couldn't have copied more than 5 answers since he gave his test to the teacher after about 10 minutes and my test was almost blank at the time. I spent the rest of the period writing the test. Today, I got my test. On the first page there was an A written, but then it was crossed off. There was an F written next to it, and the teacher wrote: "Copied". The same thing must have been written on the guy's test because he asked me about it. Some of our classmates joined the conversation. The teacher noticed, and she asked him if he copied or not. He said he did, but he told her not to punish me. The class started defending me and I told the teacher I didn't know he was copying. She didn't believe me. Later I saw she didn't give me a grade, but she wrote a note saying "Insufficient, cheated". I studied hard for that A and I could really use it. I didn't do anything wrong and I'm being punished for it. Should I let this go?

I had a real hard time keeping my attendance up last semester. I had an atypical attendance policy of 20 points out of 100, which I thought was high. I guess maybe the students thought it was odd and didn't take me seriously henceforth (shrugs). This 20 points included in-class work and time on task. By midterms, I was down to less than half the class showing up despite working on MML (online HW). It was ridiculous. I had to change my whole policy to avoid dropping everyone by the time finals came around, since everyone showed up for the final exam (as well as the other 3 exams). This semester I want to try something different. Every unexcused absence will result in a reduction of the maximum attainable grade. The class meets 32 times. 1 absence : max grade = 97 percent. 2 absences: max grade = 94 percent. 3 absences: max grade = 91 percent. etc... What do you think of this system? Do you think it is actually going to ENCOURAGE absences, because the student might think "oh, I can have 10 unexcused absences and still get a C in the class, so f* it"? Please help. FYI, I am sorta reconsidering my career, in care you're wondering.

Hello. I have a math degree and am planning on starting a program to become a high school mathematics teacher. This is because I like math and numbers, would like a job working with kids instead of sitting in front of a computer all day, would like to coach sports teams, and would love to have summers off. However, I kind of believe that teaching math to high schoolers is pointless since they will likely never use the material being taught. I think teaching students how to think about the world in a mathematical way and the math of personal finance is important, but teaching algebra (ex. how to solve for x using the quadratic formula) and geometry (ex. how to use the pythagorean theorem) is completely pointless. And quite frankly I would feel guilty making them learn this stuff as I think it would be misleading to imply that they would ever need to know it. However, I would be required to teach this material as a math teacher. So my question is, what do you think I should do? Should I not become a high school teacher even though I think I would enjoy my life much more as one? Or should I become one since if I don't do it somebody else would anyway? Or should I consider teaching middle or elementary school (where I believe that the math taught IS in fact important). Anyway, I would just like some feedback on this issue.
