What can I do as a good girlfriend? I want to be supportive but at the same time be the voice of reason in this situation. :(

I then told him: "I smell a lying cop who will lose his job fvcking with me. I don't do drugs, I don't sell drugs or transport drugs, and the last person who's been inside my vehicle with me has been my mom two weeks ago and she's does not use, sell, or distribute drugs. I don't associate with anyone who use, sell, or transport illegal drugs of any sort. You're being recorded at this moment by an audio recording system located inside my vehicle, I have plenty of money and my lawyer will hear about this." The cop had a pissed off look. Minutes later he told me to have a nice day and I drove off. I did get his name and badge number and called my lawyer when I got home.

I was pulled over the other night - 12:30 am - for "speeding." First, I saw the cop waiting at the stop sign. Second, I saw him pull out behind me. So, why would I be speeding? He asked me if I knew how fast I was going, and I said 55. He said "no, did you think you were going 55?" I explained that my speedometer is a mile or so off, so I try to keep it at 56 or 57, so I'm going 55. When I asked if I was speeding, he said "yes, but not by a lot." So, if my speedometer was set right at 60, I would only be going 58 or 59. However, since I knew the cop was behind me, there is no way I had it set on 60. So, if I went a little over and it was set at 58 or 59, that means I was only going 57 or 58, MAX. Who pulls someone over for 2 to 3 miles over? A lot of people don't have cruise control - myself included - so our speed fluctuates a little. Do you think he was just bored? He didn't give me a ticket. He just asked the usual questions... where you coming from, where you going, etc., and told me to have a nice night.

  • Can police pull you over immediately after leaving their station?

Best answer: Of course they can do that. You might be able to fight the ticket if you get a very sympathetic judge. Next time call the court and explain your problem in getting to the station and see if they can give you an alternative.

Best answer: Each case is different. The problem with many police interactions with black citizens (at least, those that have made headlines), is that the citizens are uncooperative. They resist and pull away, even try to call the police while the police are standing right next to them. That's called obstruction and incurs additional charges. Resisting with force is even more serious. So if people would calm down when talking to police and resist the desire to get away, there would be far fewer shootings of the kind you describe.

Always remember the sage wisdom of Chris Rock: If the police have to come and get you, they're bringing an azz kicking with them.
